The conversation soon turned to Top of the Pops, with Charlie explaining that now iconic, but back then rival bands were all hanging around together backstage.
The newsreader asked: “Was there any animosity backstage or were you all pals?”
The EastEnders icon explained the pivotal moment for him was Live Aid in 1985 because that’s when people became a “community” and did things together.
He added: “Before that, the only time you saw people was in the Top of the Pops corridor and you never really spoke to anyone because everyone was a rival!”
“Did you literally not talk?” asked the 60-year-old
Starting to smirk, Martin admitted: “There were some bands we spoke to and some bands we didn’t.”
Desperate to know who in particular, Charlie pressed the actor to tell all and tried his luck at getting some clues, asking what the first letter of the band was.
“He’s on I’m A Celebrity now. I was always scared of his tongue,” he confessed.
As he started laughing, the Celebrity Gogglebox star clarified: “Yeah, Boy George. He had a wicked tongue but he’s a lovely man now!”
The former soap star revealed he wants the Culture Club singer to be crowned King of the Jungle, adding: “I think he’s absolutely brilliant on it!”
“All credit to him for going on that show with no makeup, being completely who he is . I love what he’s doing,” he gushed.
