Most offensive celeb Halloween outfits – 'terrorist' joke, slur and 'biggest regret'

Here is a list of some of the most offensive Halloween outfits sported by the stars.

Celebrities always go the extra mile when dressing up for the spooky occasion, but in these examples, some have certainly missed the mark.

In some brutal cases of poor judgement, some stars have often missed the mark in what is deemed an acceptable Halloween outfit – and they’ve often been hit with backlash as a result.

But who makes it into Daily Star’s hall of fame for offensive or controversial Halloween outfits?

Let’s take a look…

Heidi Klum

Supermodel Heidi Klum is renowned for her Halloween looks and has often nailed her end-of-October looks.

Her top outfits range from her take on Jessica Rabbit in 2015 and Shrek’s Fiona in 2018.

Though in 2008, her costume angered a lot of Hindu and Indian-American leaders when she dressed up as Kali, the goddess of death and time.

At the time, Hindu cleric Rajan Zed said: “Goddess Kali is highly revered in Hinduism and she is meant to be worshipped in temples and not to be used in clubs for publicity stunts or thrown around loosely for dramatic effect.”

It hasn’t gone down as one of Heidi’s best looks.

Kylie Jenner

She later changed the caption

In 2015, Kylie Jenner went to a Halloween celebration in a quasi-Native American costume.

She had uploaded a snap of her in the white furry look with the caption “Eskimo”.

However, she later changed the caption to “Snow Princess” after receiving backlash.

The term Eskimo can be deemed as a slur for Native American and First Nation people from northern regions.

Critics of Kylie’s argued that Eskimos are not costumes, but are in fact real people from an indigenous culture.

Chrissy Teigen

Chrissy Teigen and her husband John Legend were slammed for dressing up as a Native American and a cowboy in 2008.

The TV personality was not the first celeb to have worn a Native American headdress but she received some major backlash all the same.

She later told Sports Illustrated how it was her favourite but most regrettable costume.

Chrissy told the publication: “The best costume I ever wore was actually something I forced John to wear. I made him a cowboy and I was an Indian, so we were ‘cowboys and Indians.’

“It was, to me, very cute, but now thinking back I’d never do it again. Bad idea, Chrissy, bad idea!”

Ashley Benson

Ashley issued an apology

Pretty Little Liars beauty Ashley Benson didn’t hit the nail on the head when she dressed up in 2015.

The star went for a sexy version of the beloved and then recently-murdered lion.

Cecil was an African lion who was lured out of a protected area in Zimbabwe and killed by an American trophy hunter.

At the time, she asked her fans on Instagram: “Help! Can’t decide on my Halloween costume this year! What do you guys think of this Cecil the Lion costume?”

Though later the post was edited with Cecil’s name removed.

But it was too late – and fans had already jumped on her back for the poor-tasting look.

She later apologised and stated: “Yesterday’s post was in poor taste and I absolutely regret all of the hurt that photo caused. The caption that was posted was incorrect and my costume was not Cecil the Lion, when I saw that, I contacted my management who handled the post and had it immediately changed.”

Lily Allen

In 2014, Lily Allen dressed up as a doctor which doesn’t seem too far out there until you spot her ‘Dr Luke’ tag.

At the time, TikTok singer Kesha was going through a sexual assault case with the music producer Dr Luke.

To make things worse, Lily also added a ‘gynaecology department’ badge to her outfit which was deemed even poorer taste.

It was not clear whether Lily was poking fun at the producer or at the case – which many fans found disrespectful to the American singer.

Chris Brown

In 2012, Chris Brown went to a party as a ‘terrorist’.

The Love More singer shared a snap of himself and friends dressed in turbans with fake beards on Instagram – in a now-deleted post.

He captioned it: “Ain’t nobody F—ing wit my clique!”

Perez Hilton branded the outfit “horrifically offensive” and Buzzfeed declared it “a pretty awful idea any way you look at it.”

Scott Disick

Kourtney Kardashian’s ex and father of her children Scott Disick dressed up as an Arab sheik one year.

In 2014, he uploaded an Instagram snap with the caption: “We getting Arab money tonight.”

It certainly did not go down well with fans and nor did his post with Khloe Kardashian.

She posted a photo on Instagram of them together with the caption: “Sheik [sic] p—y.”

Fans were quick to share their anger on social media, with many fuming over him perpetuating a stereotypical and monolithic image of Arab culture.

Julianne Hough

In 2013, the Footloose actress dressed up as Orange Is the New Black’s Crazy Eyes – but did the jaw-droppingly did ‘black face’ for the look.

Later down the line, she released a statement about the costume which read: “Wearing blackface was a poor choice based on my own white privilege and my own white body bias that hurt people and is something I regret doing to this day.

“However, the regret that I live with pales in comparison to the lived experiences of so many. My commitment has been to reflect and act differently. Not perfectly, but hopefully with a more developed understanding that racism and white supremacy is harmful to ALL people.”
