Real reason Crocodile Dundee star Paul Hogan won't return to Australia after 20 years

Crocodile Dundee actor Paul Hogan has vowed to return to Australia – but there’s something stopping him.

And his fellow Aussies aren’t best pleased about the news of his return either.

Hogan, 81, recently appeared on the Australian show Sunrise and told how he was desperate to come back to Oz after moving to LA in 2003.

He explained that rising crime and homelessness in his neighbourhood of Venice Beach had taken its toll and he barely leaves his mansion these days.

But his homeland’s strict two-week quarantine rules have put him off. As soon they’re lifted, the Crocodile Dundee star said he’ll be on the first plane back.

However, viewers slammed his plan and accused him of “ditching Australia” and saying he “should have come home sooner”.

Another took to Twitter to say “he made his choice” in the US while yet a third mocked his reluctance to quarantine, saying: “Two weeks in an inner city 5-star hotel too tough for you Hoges? Where’s the hardy Aussie larrikin spirit, or was it all just an act?”

Despite Hogan’s fame and the fact that 1986’s Crocodile Dundee raked in almost £350 million, he has been dogged with bad press over the past 30 years.

He split with his first wife Noelene Edwards in 1986 and it became one of the country’s ugliest ever celebrity divorces, mainly due to the fact he moved on with his Dundee co-star Linda Kozlowski.

Hogan later told the Telegraph: “The picture that was painted was five little kids hanging on the back gate while their Dad walked away, crying for him to come home, but the truth was they were mostly grown-ups.”

Hogan was slammed by his Australian fans

Hogan and Linda split in 2014 and he admitted that he is “not much of a partner” and despite “being good early on”, after about 20 years whoever he is with “gets sick of me”.

During his appearance on Sunrise, Hogan, who is also suffering from a kidney issue, added: “The minute I can come home without being locked in a hotel for two weeks, I’m back.”
