Sinead O’Connor has been taken to hospital just days after her son’s tragic death.

The singer, 55, has been open about her own challenges following the death of her son Shane who was just 17 when he tragically took his own life.

In a series of heartbreaking tweets on Thursday evening, told followers that she had been taken to hospital.

She said that she missed her son and further concerning comments which resulted in fans checking in to make sure she was okay.

Shortly after the flood of tweets, Sinead wrote: “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said that. I am with cops now on my way to hospital.”

She apologised for upsetting people and said she is “lost” without Shane and hopes hospital will “help a while”.

It comes after her son Shane was found dead on January 7 after he had gone missing for a two days.

He took his own life after going missing from where he was staying at the Tallaght Hospital in Dublin and it was later confirmed that his funeral would be held at the Newlands Cross crematorium in Dublin on Thursday (yesterday).

It was stated that only his mother and father would be in attendance.

Sinead confirmed the details of his funeral as she wrote on Twitter: “Fyi. Shane was Hindu. So the funeral will be just his mother and father. This was also the wish Shane expressed in his suicide notes.

“If you’re going to send anything to the mortuary at Loughlinstown hospital pls send flowers or Hindu objects. Shane O’Connor.

“Alternatively flowers or Hindu objects can be sent to Newlands Cross crematorium. I believe the ceremony is to be on Thursday.”

She announced the death of his son last week as she wrote on Twitter: “May he rest in peace and may no one follow his example. My baby. I love you so much. Please be at peace.”
