Amy Dowden returns to Strictly Come Dancing as she teases special appearance plans

Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden surprised fans when she returned to the BBC set for a cast reunion ahead of her third round of chemotherapy.

The pro dancer was diagnosed with breast cancer back in May this year, before she was diagnosed with another type of cancer after an investigative operation.

Due to her illness, the Welsh beauty will be sitting out of this year’s competition and has been regularly updating her loyal legion of fans about her treatment along the way.

But that hasn’t stopped her from cheering on her colleagues from the side lines and on Wednesday (August 30) the 33-year-old went on to surprise her colleagues with an impromptu visit.

Taking to her Instagram Story she shared her excitement ahead of her second reunion on the BBC set, saying: “Today I’m back at Strictly and I get to see all the pros, all the production, the whole team – hair, makeup, wardrobe – the lot and it’s put a big smile on my face before tomorrow.”

The dancer went on to share a glamorous selfie inside the dressing room where she had been given the full Strictly makeover after reuniting with the cast and crew.

She went on to share how “grateful” she is for the continued support throughout her treatment, explaining that it was “just what [she] needed” ahead of her third round of chemotherapy.

Amy wrote: “So grateful for my @bbcstrictly family [heart emoji], yesterday was just what I needed ahead of today.

“I’ve felt part of the whole journey so far! I’ve seen all the group numbers and the process by videos, then again watching yesterday and WOW honestly the best yet!

“Yes it’s hard not being up there with them doing what I love but so proud to be part of such a talented team.”

The star went on: “I loved being made glamorous by the hair and make up team, putting no a sparkle dress from Wardrobe and feeling like Amy again being at my favourite place [heart emoji].

“So very grateful! Now I’m on my way to chemo number 3! Let’s hope no hospital admissions and scares after this one.

“But I’m going with a spring in my step this morning after yesterday and knowing every day I’m closer to dancing on that floor again [heart emoji, prayer emoji, pink bow emoji].”

It didn’t take long before her famous friends and loyal fans took to the comments to share their support immediately after posting.

Former Strictly Come Dancing star Fleur East penned: “[praise emoji, heart emoji] yes Amy!!! Your smile is so bright xxx.”

Another agreed: “Sending you lots of cuddles and lots of love [heart-eyes emoji]” as a third echoed: “So glad you had a lovely day yesterday!! Good luck you’ve got this [three heart emojis].”

The dancer is certainly showing her strength as she later shared a snap of herself as she got her third round of treatment, which she bravely captioned: “Let’s go! Number three! Next cycle I’ll be saying half way!”

It comes after the star revealed she would be making a special appearance later this year and is having talks with BBC bosses.

She told Hello magazine earlier this week: “I’ve been on the phone to Strictly team today. They said they’re getting me some fabulous wigs ready [for any appearances].”
