As it is Kelly’s 39th birthday today, Daily Star has decided to take a look at her jaw-dropping weight loss transformation and the events that led her to make the change.
Mental health struggles and battle with addiction
Over the years Kelly has shared her mental health struggles with fans and admitted that it had a huge impact on her weight. In 2010 she opened up about the issues that she faced being scrutinized by the media from a young age.
In an interview with Shape magazine, she said: “I was called fat and ugly in the press almost my entire life. I understand that being judged by others comes with the territory, but it broke my heart and ruined my self-esteem.”
Her struggles led to her having an “addiction to Vicodin” and the star ended up in rehab three times. She relapsed in 2018 and opened up about it on the British morning show Lorraine two years later saying that she has come to “accept the fact I am not perfect.”
Swimsuit cover
A huge turning point for Kelly was when she appeared in Cosmopolitan Body with an incredible swim shoot snap. The cover said that Kelly had lost 5 stone, the equivalent of 70 pounds, and kept it off.
Speaking to the magazine Kelly said: “I’ll never be the kind of person who thinks, “I’m so hot.” I don’t want to be. But I learnt to respect and love myself – something I didn’t think I would ever be capable of.
“At the Emmys last year I had my first moment when I really felt good. I put on my dress and when I looked at myself in the mirror I cried.”
Seizure
In 2013 while she was filming her show Fashion Police Kelly had a terrifying seizure and it made her decide to keep up her healthy lifestyle. Talking to Self magazine after the event she said that the “60 seconds changed her life.”
Kelly told the outlet: ” I never want to take my good health for granted. The seizure was 60 seconds, but those 60 seconds will change my life for the better forever.
“I’ve worked hard to get into shape, and I’m going to continue. Not because being ‘skinny’ is important to me, but because I want to feel good.”
