Leigh-Anne Pinnock admits she lost ‘parts of herself’ during Little Mix fame

Leigh-Anne Pinnock has candidly revealed that she underwent a personal transformation during her tenure with Little Mix, acknowledging that she grappled with her identity within the group.

The 32-year-old songstress chatted to Will Manning on Capital Breakfast, reflecting on her journey since embarking on her solo career earlier this year. While discussing her experiences with the girl band, Leigh-Anne opened up about the challenging moments she encountered, despite the immense success they achieved.

“You talk about the times when you weren’t happy and you were turning it on, it just made me really sad,” said the host. To which Leigh-Anne explained: “I think that was shocking for a lot of people. When you think of Little Mix, you think of those times, you think of color and rainbows and happiness, and yes, a lot of it was, because I was with my sisters and we had the time of our lives, and I think the reason why I kind of got on with it was I had them to just laugh with.”

The singer emphasized the importance of sisterhood and admitted to struggling to fully grasp the complexities of her situation at the time. Reflecting on her personal journey, she added: “If you think that the reason why I felt like this was because of the color of my skin, I couldn’t even say those words because it didn’t really make sense to me.”

Manning continued the conversation, addressing the challenges of finding her identity within the group dynamic. He asked, “Also, you say, being put into the band and stuff when you were trying to work out which part you played. ‘Am I the sexy one, I’ll try that out, no that’s not me.’ That’s really hard.” To which Leigh-Anne candidly responded, “That was a struggle.”

“I think finding my identity in the group, I think every girl had their thing. Jade [Thirlwall] was like the cute Geordie, Perrie [Edwards] was this beautiful blonde with an incredible voice, Jesy [Nelson] was inspirational, and I was like, where do I fit in this? And yeah, I went through, do I have a certain hairstyle that I always rock? Or am I wearing the sexy dresses?”

As she delved deeper into her personal journey, Leigh-Anne revealed: “I’m really struggling to find this place, and I really did find myself just losing parts of me. I went into that group so confident and confident with my voice, confident with my everything, and right from the beginning, these things were just chipped away, chipped away”
