BBC bosses ‘baffled’ as Amanda Abbington claims Strictly stint gave her PTSD

Producers at the BBC have been left scratching their heads after Amanda Abbington described her Strictly Come Dancing as having given her post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Abbington, 51, has allegedly asked bosses at the show for footage of her rehearsals that she can use in potential legal proceedings. She insisted that the video proof of rehearsals would help to “back up” her version of events.

Actress Amanda was announced to be a part of the line-up for the most recent series of the show, partnered with Italian stallion Giovanni Pernice. However, as the show progressed, Amanda went on to quit the programme midway through, leaving Giovanni to pull out of the competition.

Upon leaving the show, Amanda cited “personal reasons” after rumours that she had a falling out with her professional partner. Since then, the Sherlock star shut down allegations of a rift between the two during the show.

Responding to claims the pair were not getting on, Amanda took to Instagram to blast detractors. She slammed haters, saying the allegations of a fallout were “b******t” and told people to “shut up”.

Sources at the BBC have said they are ready to take on Amanda’s claims, as they revealed Amanda had told them she was quitting over other reasons. Among those she cited for her departure from the show were medical reasons.

An insider for the show told MailOnline: “Amanda’s reason for quitting Strictly was an entirely different one to her PTSD. She told production of a totally different medical condition and they [were] hugely supportive of her and did all they could to help.

“Nobody seems to quite understand what is going on here,” the insider continued. The insider added that they had known about Amanda’s PTSD claims towards the end of last year when they received the request to see the tapes.

Amanda left the show during the show’s fifth week in the middle of October, and it has been claimed that it has taken her weeks to fully recover from her experience on the show. She has also been reported to need therapy in order to process her time on the programme.

Speaking to The Sun at the time, an insider said: “Everyone else was having a fabulous time but she was really stressed by having to spend eight hours a day with Giovanni. She spent a lot of time crying and couldn’t sleep or eat properly.”
