Coronation Street villain ‘exits soap’ after one year as they admit ‘it’s bittersweet’

A Coronation Street star is reportedly leaving the soap after causing havoc on the Cobbles.

Ex-Hollyoaks star Calum Lill, who plays evil Corrie villain Joel Deering, joined the ITV soap last year. Fans were immediately suspicious of the solicitor, who was introduced as Dee-Dee Bailey’s love interest.

Joel has now been revealed to be abusing young girls and the reason behind teen Lauren Bolton’s disappearance. He fathered her newborn baby and tried to kill her, drugging her in a desperate attempt to kill the baby.

However, his sickening plan didn’t work as she went into labour early and the baby survived. And now Joel’s days of terrorising Lauren seem to be numbered as it’s said Calum has left the soap and his character’s “comeuppance” is coming.

A source told The Sun: “Calum has made a huge impact as Joel over the last year but he always knew it would be for a fixed term. He’s been great playing Joel but all good soap villains must get their comeuppance and Joel’s is coming very soon.

“He’s already landed his first job after the show and so he’ll be finished in time to start rehearsals for that. But on-screen Joel has no idea what’s coming for him as his dark secrets start to be exposed.”

Calum previously admitted his exit from Corrie would be “bittersweet” as he’s loved working on set so much. He said: “I think it’s bittersweet for me.

“As an actor, it’s getting more and more juicy, but as soon as this comes to a climax, I leave this incredible place filled with so many people I’ve come to know and love and been some of my best friends over the last 18 months.

“I’m very excited to get to the end of the story, but it will be very bittersweet because it’s the most incredible place to work.”

The actor has already bagged himself an acting job following Corrie. He is due to appear in a Jack and the Beanstalk pantomime in Bournemouth later this year.

Calum will be playing another villain – Fleshcreep – in the theatre show, which runs from Sat 7 Dec 2024 to Sun 5 Jan 2025. He said: “I’m really looking forward to my Christmas Boos in Bournemouth, when I bring my dastardly Fleshcreep to the stage. Bring it on!”.
