A Dancing On Ice star has opened up on the backstage “tantrums” threatening to wreak havoc amongst the ITV show’s contestants.
The series, fronted by Holly Willoughby and Stephen Mulhern is now past the halfway stage with celebrity stars Adele Roberts, Greg Rutherford and Amber Davies leading the race to be crowned this year’s winner. Whilst the stars may seem all smiles in the rink, less can be said backstage, however, according to the the shows’ creative director.
Dan Whiston claims fans would “have to see it to believe it” such is the fiery nature of the 2024 competition. The 47-year old, who has appeared in every series of the show since its 2006 inception, has now given us insight into what goes on when we’re not looking.

“I’d love to have a camera backstage – that’s where the real show is,” said Dan, who also appeared on Strictly in 2004.
He continued in new! magazine: You wouldn’t believe what you are seeing – there are tantrums, tiaras and feathers everywhere, and that’s just the boys. We’ve had to make rehearsal time fair this year because a lot people have been saying, ‘I want more time’ – but they all do.”
Dan continued: “They’re all pushing for more time, and we have to make sure it’s the same otherwise it becomes unfair. I need to get a big hook to pull them off the ice.”
On Sunday, meanwhile, the show was at the centre of a “fix” storm after Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards was given the boot instead of skate-off rival Amber Davies. The pair found themselves in the bottom two after their weekend performances, with the judges unexpectedly chose to save the Love Island beauty.
Fans watching at home were left fuming, meanwhile, with many saying Eddie was the better skater and deserved to stay in the ITV competition. Several claimed the show was being “rigged” to get Amber through to the final.
One angry viewer raged on X (formerly Twitter): “A terrible decision! It can only be fixed.” Another wrote: “Dancing On Ice what is the point of this, when it is so blatantly fixed.
A third added: “Eddie Edwards was a far better skater and obviously didn’t fit the demographic of the winner.” And a fourth said: “It is clearly rigged, no way would Amber beat Eddie if it was fair competition.”
