Deadpool and Wolverine spoilers: All the cameos and Easter eggs in Marvel’s latest blockbuster

Warning – this article contains major spoilers for Deadpool and Wolverine.

Ryan Reynolds is back in action as Deadpool this week, once again annihilating the fourth wall in another Marvel universe adventure.

This time, he’s joined by none other than the iconic X-Men character Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), fulfilling years of fan anticipation for their on-screen collaboration.

Comic enthusiasts are buzzing with the possibility of surprise cameos as the mismatched pair navigate the multiverse to evade the Time Variance Authority (TVA), but will the film live up to the hype?

From the outset, it’s clear that Deadpool’s latest cinematic outing pulls no punches, picking up after Wolverine’s supposed final appearance in the 2017 movie Logan, reports the Mirror.

While we all remember Wolverine’s poignant end at the conclusion of the X-Men series (let’s not dwell on Dark Phoenix and New Mutants), Deadpool insists there’s more life left in the self-healing mutant and even goes as far as digging up his grave.

Upon finding out that this version of Wolverine has indeed met his end, Deadpool seizes the opportunity to use his indestructible skeleton against some troublesome TVA agents.

The story then whisks us off to a hilariously awkward meeting with the Avengers’ very own “chauffeur” Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau), surrounded by an Aladdin’s cave of Marvel goodies, including the original arc reactor of Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr) and a Forbes magazine cover flaunting Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow).

Despite his best efforts, Happy gives Deadpool the cold shoulder about joining the superhero elite, but TVA’s maverick agent Mr Paradox (Matthew Macfadyen) dangles a shot at redemption in front of him. He informs Deadpool that since Logan kicked the bucket, his timeline’s been going to pot.

Deadpool’s itching to reunite with his motley crew, which includes old flame Vanessa Carlysle (Morena Baccarin), Peter Wisdom (Rob Delaney), Blind Al (Leslie Uggams), Dopinder (Karan Soni), Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), Colossus (Stefan Kapicic), Yukio (Shioli Kutsuna), Buck (Randal Reeder), and Shatterstar (Lewis Tan) all returning from previous romps in the Deadpool saga.

So, Deadpool takes the plunge into the multiverse on a quest for a new Wolverine, hoping to find his way back home. We’re treated to a montage of Wolverines plucked from the pages of Marvel history, featuring a “comic accurate” pint-sized Wolverine, a glam rock-haired Wolverine minus one hand from Age of Apocalypse, a patch-wearing Wolverine, Old Man Logan, Wolverine in his iconic comic strip getup duking it out with the Hulk, and a crucified Wolverine on a massive X straight out of Chris Claremont’s Uncanny X-Men.

Hugh Jackman plays all of them, but there’s also surprise in store when Henry Cavill, known for his role as Superman, appears as another Logan variant. This comes after fans have been clamouring for him to join the MCU.

Deadpool and Wolverine later find themselves trapped in the Void, a desolate part of the multiverse where discarded items from lost dimensions are sent to be consumed by Alioth. It’s here that the cameos and references start flooding in, including a brief sighting of a classic helmet and shield worn by Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Captain America (Chris Evans) in the comic books.

Hollywood star Chris Evans does make an appearance (as does Hemsworth’s Thor through old footage), but not as his famous Star Spangled Man with a Plan. Instead, he’s back as Johnny Storm aka The Human Torch from the original Fantastic Four films.

He tries (unsuccessfully) to help the pair fight against a host of mutants from Fox’s X-Men films, including Tyler Mane returning as Wolverine’s foe Sabretooth and Aaron Stanford as Pyro. Other baddies include Toad, Psylocke, Juggernaut, Lady Deathstrike and Azazel, although they’re not played by their original actors.

To help them battle the Void’s fearsome leader Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin), the twin sister of Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart, who doesn’t appear), Deadpool and Wolverine enlist four heroes from forgotten Marvel timelines.

Dafne Keen as Laura/X-23, Jennifer Garner as Elektra, Wesley Snipes as Blade and Channing Tatum as Gambit received the most applause from Marvel fans. Gambit’s standalone film was stuck in development hell for years.

When Deadpool and Wolverine return to Wade’s timeline, Cassandra releases an army of Deadpool variants to stop the heroes from ruining her multiverse destruction plan. The line-up includes Ryan’s wife Blake Lively as Lady Deadpool, Ryan himself as another Deadpool variant known as Nicepool (alongside his dog Mary Poppins/Dogpool), a Cowboy Deadpool (listed in the credits as Matthew McConaughey), Samurai Deadpool, Headpool (a floating skull voice by Nathan Fillion), Kidpool, Baby Deadpool, Welsh and Scottish Deadpools, a gas mask-clad pirate Deadpool and a Robot Deadpool.

Plus, Wunmi Mosaku returns as Hunter B-15 from the Disney+ series Loki, Wrexham player Ollie Palmer plays a bartender, and the team’s co-owner with Ryan, Rob McElhenney, also makes a secret appearance as a TVA agent.

That’s all the cameos we noticed, but Marvel enthusiasts will surely be returning for second and third viewings to uncover any hidden secrets they might have overlooked on their initial watch.

Deadpool and Wolverine is in cinemas now.
