Emmerdale star announces return to ITV soap as he says it’s ‘good to be back’

An Emmerdale star will be making a return to the soap, to the delight of fans.

The ITV soap has grappled a number of important storylines in recent months, including Laurel suffering a heart attack and collapsing at the beginning of the month. Played by Charlotte Bellamy, Laurel’s heart attack followed a heated argument with husband Jai Sharma.

After being checked over by medical professionals, Laurel was given the all-clear to return home during an episode on July 9. She was welcomed home by everyone in her family, with the notable exception of son Arthur.

This is because Alfie Clarke, who plays the role of Arthur Thomas, has been absent from the village for a number of weeks. However, Alfie has now confirmed that he will be making a return to the show as he took to his social media platforms.

Uploading a snap of the road leading into the village set, Clarke beamed as he penned: “Good to be back at Emmerdale!” before tagging the official Emmerdale account, with a slew of hashtags. Fans had been left guessing where Arthur had been after some eagle-eyed viewers noticed he had gone missing.

However, those who had been paying attention to the soap remembered that Arthur’s whereabouts had been covered in an episode which aired one week prior. Half-sister Gabby was chatting to Laurel about her tense living situation at Home Farm, to which mum Laurel suggested moving into Mulberry Cottage.

It was here where the mystery of Arthur’s whereabouts came to an end, as it was revealed he had headed down under. “Arthur’s in Australia and there’s more than enough room in the inn,” Laurel explained.

“Gabby, you and Thomas are family – you’re always welcome. And, to be honest, I could do with another woman in the house,” she quipped.

Some fans were left confused, however, as there had been no mention of Arthur leaving for Australia beforehand. However, viewers chalked the line’s inclusion to explain where actor Arthur had disappeared to in the midst of Laurel’s ordeal.

In the real world, Alfie’s absence is likely explained by his ongoing schoolwork. As Alfie is aged just 16, it would have been likely he would have been taking his GCSEs during the show, which required him to temporarily leave the show.

It meant that Arthur was not around for a harrowing heart attack storyline with mum Laurel

Viewers of the soap were thrilled to hear he’d be returning to the show, with one fan writing: “Can’t wait to see you back on the TV screens again – you are a brill actor; keep up the brill work because you are amazing.”

A second user wrote: “Welcome back. It will be great to see you on our television screens.” Whilst a third said: “Yeah, missed your mug, mister!”

Emmerdale airs every weekday at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
