Gogglebox star Giles left viewers gobsmacked as he suggested he’d like to see two former TV stars host a travel show.
The TV star and his wife Mary were on Friday night’s (22 March) instalment of the Channel 4 show and one of the programmes they tuned into was Strictly star Anton Du Beke’s new travel series with Giovanni Pernice. As they watched Anton and Giovanni’s adventures around Spain, Mary asked Giles who he would like to see hosting a two-person travel show.
“Huw Edwards and Phil Schofield,” he replied, as she chuckled. “They would be very good together,” he insisted.

Viewers thought it was hilarious, with some posting about it on X. One fan said: “‘Who would you like to see doing a two man travel show?’ ‘Hugh Edwards (sic) and Phillip Schofield!’ – Mary & Giles Genius one liner!”
“Naughty Giles,” posted someone else. “Huw Edwards & Phillip Schofield, Giles?…” asked another viewer. Someone else said that “Giles and Mary would be entertaining on a travel programme”.
Phillip used to host This Morning but stepped down last year amid a scandal that saw him admitting to an “unwise but not illegal” affair with a younger male colleague.
Last summer it emerged that Huw was the unnamed BBC presenter accused of paying someone thousands of pounds in exchange for sexual images.
Anton and Giovanni’s show got all of the armchair critics talking, thanks to a segment that saw the ballroom stars singing as they danced around a square and linked their arms together. The Gogglebox stars all admitted they were cringing watching the scenes – with Tom Malone laughing: “It’s not singing in the rain Julie, it’s a p**** in the sun.”
Viewers felt the same way about the jaunty little number. “Pmsl at Anton & Giovanni screeching – cringe tv,” said one person on X. “Anton & Giovanni’s adventures turned into a musical? Oh dear,” said another.
One baffled fan wrote: “They’re singing. A*** clenching.” “Cringe to death,” said another viewer, as another person labelled it a “cringefest”. One viewer said it reminded them of the movie La La Land as somebody else confessed: “This is like some weird fever dream…”
