Grace fans make the same complaint about series change minutes into new episode

John Simm is back as DS Roy Grace in season four of the smash-hit ITV drama Grace, stirring up excitement amongst fans. The nail-biting show draws inspiration from Peter James’s best-selling novels about Detective Superintendent Roy Grace.

However, some eagle-eyed viewers were unimpressed after pinpointing deviations from the initial storyline as the second episode of the fourth season kicked off.

Sunday’s episode started with a bang as a figure was tied up in nun attire and chained to a railing on Brighton’s iconic beachfront, only to be abandoned by a baffled locksmith who refused to work for free.

Cut to the scenic Wooding Beacon where the plot thickened, a park ranger stumbled upon a dead body, prompting DS Roy Grace and his sidekick DS Glen Branson (played by Richie Campbell), to delve into the investigation, deducing that the poor soul met their end through drowning.

But it was during the autopsy that the detective’s suspicions took a turn as it was revealed the person had drowned in sheep’s milk, setting the stage for yet another enthralling episode of Grace, reports the Express.

Despite the gripping twists and turns, some fans couldn’t help but vent their disappointment online over the storytelling straying from the book.

One viewer expressed dismay over the discrepancies from the source material, questioning the faithfulness of the adaptation on X: “This one’s totally different to the book, isn’t it? John Simm said it was but… #WantYouDead #Grace.”

One viewer expressed their disappointment, stating: “This isn’t #WantYouDead. Totally different plot. #Grace #PeterJames.”

Another fan voiced their frustration: “This is an absolute mess. There is artistic licence to make a TV drama but this has no correlation to the book! #Grace.”

Despite the criticism, some viewers were full of praise for the episode. One fan gushed: “This is amazing #Grace.”

“The best thing on a Sunday night #grace”, another viewer shared, while one more added: “Sunday night watching #Grace snuggled under my blanket with the smelly stupid price candle lit #bliss #autumnvibes.”

Grace currently airs every Sunday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
