Hollywood star baffles viewers after age is revealed on The One Show

A Hollywood actor baffled fans of The One Show on Thursday evening (March 21) after revealing his age to hosts Roman Kemp and Jermaine Jenas.

Promoting their new movie, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, its stars Ernie Hudson, Finn Wolfhard and McKenna Grace appeared on the BBC show’s sofas. During their chat about the film, however, it was Ernie’s age that caused the biggest stir amongst viewers.

The star is best known for his role as Winston Zeddemore in the supernatural comedy flicks, having first appeared in the original Ghostbusters production in 1984. He went on to star in its sequel five years later, as well as 2016’s all female remake of the original and Ghostbusters: Afterlife in 2021.

Now, 40 years on from making his debut, viewers we left in complete shock as to how little the actor has aged.

Viewers of The One Show were stunned to learn Ernie Hudson’s age

Asked by Roman and Jermaine about Ghostbusters’ legacy, Ernie responded: “Yeah, it’s amazing. Fans for 40 years they’ve kept it alive even when there was no Ghostbusters. People got tattoos. They just showed up and kept it going.”

And quizzed by the pair about reuiniting with co-stars Bill Murray (who plays Dr. Peter Venkman) and Dan Aykroyd (Ray Stantz), he continued: “It’s almost like stepping into a postcard. I mean, Bill Murray, Danny, they’re brilliant, you never know what to expect. But I think we were all so excited to meet the new guys that have carried on the franchise, I mean these guys are amazing.”

Ernie first starred in the Ghostbusters franchise in 1984

Realising Ernie’s age during the interview, meanwhile, one stunned X (formerly Twitter) user wrote: “Watching The One Show on BBC One and wondering how on earth is Ernie Hudson 78 years old? What’s your secret Ernie?” Another added: “Ernie Hudson doesn’t look a day older than the day the original Ghostbusters was released 78!!! Jesus!!”

A third commented: “So good to see @Ernie _Hudson on #TheOneShow and not aged a bit, forever Officer Albrecht to me, awesome movie, awesome performance Sir.” And a fourth gushed: “Ernie Hudson is a legend. Looks amazing for his age.”

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is in cinemas from today (March 22)

Fourth Ghostbuster Harold Ramis, who played Egon Spengler, sadly passed away at the age of 69 due to complications from autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis in 2014, meanwhile.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife kept his legacy alive, however, as the story followed Egon’s grandchildren as they explored the estate he left behind.
