ITV presenter who quit after row with bosses finally returns to air 3 years later

A huge TV star who left presenting behind three years ago has made a startling comeback.

Saira Khan returned to our screens on Tuesday (March 19) after three years away from TV due to run-ins with channel bosses. However, she made her big TV comeback after leaving television back in 2021.

Khan first shot to fame when she appeared on the first ever series of The Apprentice back in 2005. Finishing only behind eventual winner Tim Campbell, Saira managed to birth a whole new career for herself after her stint on the business show.

Soon after her time on the show finished, Saira was able to get hosting gigs for a series of new shows, including kids business show Beat the Boss and cooking titan Ready Steady Cook. She also landed some extra work appearing on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour on a number of different occasions.

However, Saira was probably best known for appearing as a panellist on the ITV women’s show Loose Women. Becoming a regular on the programme in 2015, Saira would feature for another five years before deciding to leave the show in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

But now, the former Celebrity Big Brother star has made her grand return to TV after years away from the limelight. On Tuesday, she appeared on Channel 5 ‘s morning panel debate show, hosted by Jeremy Vine.

In typical fashion for opinionated Saira, she was brought on the show as a panellist to help debate the big stories for the day alongside another guest. And it was clear that Saira had been missed by viewers, as her appearance was praised for its honestly and bluntness.

Speaking to The Sun ahead of her return, Khan admitted: “After taking a few years off the telly, it was nice to be back and I didn’t realise how much I missed it. It was Jeremy who persuaded me to come back.

“I think it’s good to have a break and I feel more confident now about who I am and who I what I want to say,” she added. But this is not the first time that Saira has let her feelings be known on her return to the silver screen, having published a shot of her on the show to her Instagram profile, gushing over the programme for giving her a second chance.

Khan went on to thank Jeremy for “persuading” her to come back to our TV screens, as well as Guardian journalist Owen Jones. She complimented them for “making my first day back lots of fun”, and allowing her to “let off some steam”.

Saira previously revealed how she had left Loose Women in early 2021. She wrote in her column for The Mirror that she wanted to have more fun on the show, but this particular role was already filled by Stacey Solomon, according to bosses.

Opening up to Closer magazine, she said: “On Loose Women you saw me being quite passionate, heated and feisty, but that’s the silo they put me in. I wanted to have a bit of fun, but that wasn’t for me, that was for Stacey Solomon; Stacey was the fun one, but I had to be the loud, gobby one.”
