The King of Pop, Michael Jackson, reportedly had some bizarre demands while jet-setting on tour – including sipping wine from Diet Coke cans. The late superstar’s peculiar in-flight preferences have been revealed in an unauthorised tell-all that hit the shelves after his untimely demise in 2009 at just 50 years old.

The book, Michael Jackson Conspiracy by Aphrodite Jones, reveals eye-opening details about MJ’s strict eating habits while travelling on planes. According to a “passenger profile” from September 1, 2003, featured in the book, Jacko was partial to a very specific fast food chain and had a strange way of knocking back his boozy drinks.

In the book, Jones shared Jackson’s alleged “food preferences”, with a printout claiming Jackson would eat “KFC original chicken breasts, mashed potatoes, corn, biscuits, scrambled eggs with strawberry jelly, gravy and spray butter” for breakfast. This was alternated with “Salmon lox, low-fat wheat bagels, low-fat cream cheese. Fruit plate and whole fruit (especially oranges, grapes, apples, and bananas.)”

Lunch and dinner were both similar to the breakfast request, also featuring KFC original chicken breasts, but Jackson’s profile shows there were different ways of serving up the fast food depending on the time of day. For lunch it was alleged Jackson would eat “KFC original chicken breasts, mashed potatoes/gravy on side, corn on the cob, biscuits with strawberry jelly and spray butter.”

But this depended on how long Jackson was expected to travel. The flight log added: “If travelling for a number of consecutive days, will try other forms of chicken, but would still like the KFC.” Dinner, too, was provided by The Colonel, according to Jones.

“KFC original chicken breasts, mashed potatoes/gravy on side, corn on the cob, biscuits with strawberry jelly and spray butter,” the log read. While the main meal requests were almost identical, Jackson was more particular with his dessert and drinking requirements. His flight log suggests he “rarely eats desert” but would “ask for a Sunday one out of 10 times”. Jones also claimed Jackson would prefer “gum and mints” or “whole fruit” instead of a more traditional pudding.

But it was Jackson’s way of drinking alcoholic beverages that left members of the public truly baffled. The log reads: “White wine in Diet Coke can on every flight. 7-Up, Orange Crush or fruit punch. Will sometimes drink tequila, gin, or Crown Royal.”

A report from The Telegraph in 2005 shed further light on Jackson’s peculiar drinking style, with a cabin crew member claiming she suggested the Diet Coke cans to Jackson. Cynthia Bell described the Beat It singer as a “very private drinker” who would insist on wine to be served in soft drink cans.

It is unclear where Jones found the flight log, but Michael Jackson Conspiracy otherwise follows what she she describes as “the Michael Jackson trial” and claims to outline “what really happened in the Santa Maria courtroom”.
