Aussie actor Sam Worthington couldn’t resist a swipe at Cara Delevingne during Martin Brundle’s latest grid walk.
The star of the Avatar franchise was among the VIPs on the grid ahead of the Australia Grand Prix as a guest of Red Bull – and he was more than happy to chat to F1 legend Brundle.
As the conversation began, Worthington made reference to one of Brundle’s most awkward grid walk exchanges. “I’m not going to Cara Delevingne you this time,” he quipped to the Sky Sports commentator and former racer.

Worthington was referring to Delevingne’s snub to Brundle on the grid at last year’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone. It’s fair to say Brundle’s record of interviewing celebrities ahead of races is mixed. While some are more than happy to chat, others have been downright rude towards him.
Delevingne fell into the latter category. As Brundle approached, he was bluntly told by security that she “doesn’t want to talk”. The legendary broadcaster approached anyway, only for Delevingne to shake her head.

Brundle told the actress: “The deal is everybody has to speak on the grid”, before facing more rejection as she claimed she “can’t hear anything”. The awkward exchange saw the model come in for heavy criticism on social media.
His chat with hoodie-wearing Worthington wasn’t exactly straight-forward, with viewers branding the exchange “awkward”. With the pair seemingly struggling to hear each other, Brundle managed to ask about his current work, with Worthington replying: “Just working, doing more Avatars, it’s good.”
Worthington said he was rooting for Red Bull, saying it was a “long time since they’d won in Australia” despite the fact Max Verstappen won the race 12 months ago.
However, there was no repeat as the dominant Dutchman dramatically suffered brake failure early in the race. Carlos Sainz, who overtook Verstappen on lap two, went on to take victory for Ferrari, just two weeks after having his appendix removed.
