Actor Sam Nivola has defended the jaw-dropping brother-on-brother scene in the latest episode of The White Lotus.

Fans of the show have been predicting that something sexual would happen with the brothers from the first episode of season three. In that episode, younger brother Lochlan (played by Sam) appeared to eye-up his older brother Saxon’s (Patrick Schwarzenegger) naked body.

In last week’s episode, the brothers kissed after they were egged on by Chloe (Charlotte Le Bon) and Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood), which almost made actor Patrick “throw up”. This week, as Lochlan slept with Chloe, he could be seen pleasuring Saxon at the same time.

What followed was flashback scenes and moments of grim realisation from both brothers – and fans were left horrified, too.

Sam, 21, has defended the shocking scene and his character. Speaking to Variety, he said: “At the end of the day, Lochlan is not a creep, necessarily.

“Of course, I have to say that. You have to love your character. So, f*** it, I’ll defend him!

“I think he’s incredibly misguided, and his circumstances have put him in a bad spot, but I don’t think he’s evil or malicious in any way. It’s important to the story that he’s not some psychopath.”

While fans have speculated that Lochlan might be questioning his sexuality, Sam believes it’s something completely different. The actor suggested that instead he is wanting to make his brother like him, after realising that Saxon is “the sex guy”.

“The thing on the boat is Lochlan’s tragically misguided attempt at being like, ‘So you’re the sex guy. Let’s do something in that realm and try to connect in some way,'” Sam added. “It’s obviously a big swing and a miss.”

Viewers watching couldn’t believe what they were seeing. One person said on X: “OMG I have been saying this family was psychosexually obsessed with each other for weeks! It’s so weird the brothers did that OMG disgusting.”

Another said: “Everyone involved with this show is just going straight to hell because what the f***.”

Someone else said: “The brothers storyline this episode made me so uncomfortable I had to skip some parts.”

And another added: “How long is the scene with the brothers because I don’t know if I want to see that I’m sorry.”

There are just two episodes left of the season, and clearly a lot has been left unsaid between the brothers.

But will any of them end up dead in the shooting that was shown in the very first episode?
