Corriedale fans have been sharing their theories on who they think could die during the historic cross over episode, with favourites from both soaps set to meet in a ‘catastrophic’ car accident
Fans think they’ve rumbled who will die in the upcoming special cross over of Coronation Street and Emmerdale. Tonight, the cast from both ITV soaps will cross paths during a horror car crash.
So far it is unclear who gets hurt in the accident, but it is known that several characters are involved. Emmerdale’s Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell), Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) and Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins), with Weatherfield icons such as David Platt (Jack P Shepherd), Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney), Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce), Carla Connor (Alison King) and Ken Barlow (William Roache) could meet devastation.
Soap bosses have added that the team will suffer “catastrophic” injuries that are sure to be “life changing”.
Perhaps most interestingly, fans will be able to cast their votes and decide which characters will come face to face in the historic episode. Last year, fans were asked to write up their dream pairings.
It was then shortlisted into four pairings. All four scenes were written and filmed, with the winning duo yet to be confirmed.
Corriedale boss Iain MacLeod told Digital Spy the poll will close 15 minutes before the show is aired at 8pm Jan 5. He added: “I will be in the transmission suite on the night going, ‘Play that one! Hopefully that’s the right one! I’m already feeling a little sweaty about that, to be honest.”
Fans are diving head first into the special with their theories. One keen Reddit fan predicted a death of beloved character – with clues to back it up.
They wrote: “I feel like it is almost definite that Billy will die in Corriedale and here’s why. Obviously it is now common knowledge that Billy’s exit is near, however it is not confirmed whether that will be in Corriedale.
“Daniel Brocklebank posted on his instagram his last filming day with Harriet Bibby on November 17th. As we all know, Corrie is filmed 6-8 weeks ahead of airing schedule. 6 weeks ahead of November 17th is January 5th (the date of Corriedale).
“I’m probably clutching at straws here but yeah”.
Last year, Brocklebank announced that he would be leaving the soap after 11 years appearing as Billy. His exit storyline has been kept tightly under wraps, but it has been confirmed that he’s already filmed his leaving scenes.
In 2024, Billy’s onscreen husband Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) died in heartbreaking scenes after a battle with motor neurone disease (MND). Recent storylines have explored how Billy has struggled to deal with the impact of his partner’s death.
He told the ECHO: “I’ve got 11 years worth of memories as well. Eleven years is a long time to be working in one place. I’ve been an actor now for 32 years, and 11 of them were spent there. It does become like a big family.
“I’ve had so many great storylines over the years. Billy certainly wasn’t short of drama including fun things to do, some tragic things to do and some silly things to do. I mean, he should never have touched that heroin”.
He said: “But I’ve loved my time at Corrie, and I will always look back on it with nothing but absolute love in my heart.”
