The anticipated crossover between Coronation Street and Emmerdale will air on Monday night with a series off behind the scenes photos being released ahead of the episode
Corriedale has released a series of behind-the-scenes photos, just hours before the landmark crossover is set to air on ITV.
It was announced last year that Emmerdale and Coronation Street would be merging for a special one-off episode, with characters from both Weatherfield and the Dales set to come together in an unprecedented event. The productions for each soap have joined forces for an “ambitious stunt” which will have “everlasting consequences for everyone involved”.
The build-up begins at 7am on Monday (January 5) when half-hour episodes of both soaps will land on ITVX, before airing on ITV1 at 7pm and 7.30pm. Corriedale will then begin at 8pm, airing for one hour.
With just hours to go before the highly-anticipated crossover hits our screens, ITV has invited viewers to go behind-the-scenes of Corriedale. Whilst the action-packed episode is full of “drama, secrets, lies, injuries and potential deaths”, new set photos show just how much fun the actors from both soaps had working together.
Cast and crew from Corrie and Emmerdale filmed for three weeks back in October on a disused road close to Harrogate, Yorkshire. They worked alongside each other to film the multi-vehicle pile-up, and when the cameras stopped rolling, the tears soon turned to laughter.
Julia Goulding, who plays Shona Platt on Corrie, said: “There was such a fantastic atmosphere on set. It was really special to be able to work with the Emmerdale cast and crew. It certainly helped with the night shoots to be able to work with new people. We kept the energy high with coffee and lots of sugary sweets!”
Danny Miller, who plays Aaron Dingle on Emmerdale, added: “The night shoots were a lot of fun and it’s been great working with the Corrie team. I can’t wait to see how the episode plays out with the separate storylines from both Emmerdale and Corrie. It’s going to be epic and every soap fan’s dream.”
Once the episode has been broadcast, soap fans can then get exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the making of Corriedale with Corriedale Backstage Pass on ITVX, ITV3 and YouTube at 9pm.
Hosted by Luis Elkes and packed with cast interviews and behind-the-scenes access, the one-off special will give audiences the ultimate insider experience, and captures the excitement of the two soap worlds colliding.
“Corriedale is just the start of the drama as the aftermath of the crash gives rise to fear, murderous intent, death, destruction, closely-guarded secrets, and lies,” the official synopsis teases.
“Life in Emmerdale and Weatherfield will never be the same again!”
It’s been a dramatic week on both Corrie and Emmerdale ahead of the crossover airing. In the Dales, Celia Daniels’ (Jaye Griffiths) reign of terror finally came to an end when her son, Ray Walters (Joe Absolom), killed her. However, the same can’t be said for John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth), who recently returned to the Dales to get his husband, Aaron, back.
Meanwhile, the residents of Weatherfield recently travelled to Yorkshire to celebrate the wedding of Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) and Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan), though several secrets soon derailed the reception. Back on the cobbles, Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) continued to search for the truth about Carla Connor (Alison King) after villain Becky Swain (Amy Cudden) took her hostage over Christmas.
Corriedale is a celebration of the soap genre and will launch ITV’s new soap power hour scheduling pattern for Corrie and Emmerdale.
Corriedale will air on ITV1 and ITVX at 8pm on Monday, January 5, followed by Corriedale Backstage Pass on ITVX, ITV3 and YouTube at 9pm
