BBC The Traitors’ secret traitor ‘unmasked’ as fans spot giveaway in confession

The Traitors’ secret traitor may have just unmasked themselves, as fans spotted a giveaway in a confessional from one of the Faithfuls, who are unaware of the twist

The Traitors’ hidden betrayer may have just revealed their identity.

During a private moment, psychologist Ellie expressed her concerns, saying she didn’t want people to think she is a “Secret Traitor” – prompting viewers to wonder how she’d know that specific terminology if the Faithfuls remain oblivious to this series’ shocking twist.

In the confessional booth, Ellie remarked: “People will question whether you are sitting and watching as a kind of Secret Traitor.” Sharp-eyed viewers immediately seized upon her particular phrasing. “Anyone notice Ellie talking in the interview room and saying ‘people will question whether you are sitting and watching as a kind of secret traitor’,” one fan asked, reports the Mirror.

Another added: “Ellie saying “don’t want to look like a secret traitor” as a faithful who don’t know about a secret traitor? ? ? Suspicious wording.”

And a third agreed: “Ellie saying ‘thinking I’m some secret traitor’, why would you say secret and not just traitor unless it’s on your mind?”.

The concealed betrayer represents a fresh element to the programme.

At the beginning of the opening episode, which broadcast on 1 January, presenter Claudia Winkleman disclosed that this series would feature a fourth conspirator unknown to all participants, including fellow backstabbers and audiences alike.

This mysterious figure, bestowed with a crimson cloak, holds ultimate authority – selecting three potential victims from whom the remaining traitors must choose their target.

Audiences have been desperate to discover this enigmatic betrayer’s true identity.

Their opportunity to witness this conspirator’s dramatic revelation nearly arrived during the third instalment. During this evening’s episode (3 January), the first traitor faced banishment.

Following Hugo’s betrayal by fellow traitor Stephen, the remaining duo were given a covert mission that might help them expose the hidden traitor.

Stephen and Rachel received instructions to mark the family tree of contestants with red ink, signalling who could be eliminated. Should they manage to mark nine names, they would not only secure the right to eliminate a player that evening, but would also encounter the secret traitor.

They completed their task successfully, despite nearly exposing themselves to Reece. Consequently, that night, the secret traitor made their journey to the traitors ‘ tower.

However, as they arrived, the credits began to roll. This means viewers must wait until Wednesday 7 January to discover their identity, assuming the programme reveals it at all.

Fans have discovered another method to identify the secret traitor though, should we not meet them.

Following the revelation of the first elimination shortlist, viewers spotted that Netty’s name had been misspelt as Nettie. Therefore, they proposed that if they observed someone at the round table misspell Netty’s name, that individual could be the secret traitor.

Regrettably for amateur detectives, Netty was eliminated and thus never received votes at the roundtable. Nevertheless, the theory remains valid, and fans have been scrutinising the handwritten elimination list.

One commented: “Based on the hand writing on the short list, I think Roxy could be the secret traitor.”
