NBA legend Lamar Odom opens up about heartbreaking death of 6-month-old son

NBA star Lamar Odom went through the worst possible heartbreak when his son passed away at just six-months-old.

His son Jayden, was his third child with ex-partner Liza Morales.

Little Jayden was born on December 15th, 2005 but passed away on June 29th, 2006.

The heartbreaking loss came three years before he started dating Keeping Up With The Kardashians star, Khloé Kardashian.

Former Los Angeles Laker star Lamar shares Destiny, 22, and Lamar Junior, 18 with Liza – revealed in his memoir Darkness To Late.

In an emotional clip, he explained that he didn’t cry for three years following Jayden’s death.

In his memoir, the star says that on the morning of June 29th, Liza woke up and went into Jayden’s room to check on him.

The mum-of-three found him lying on his stomach, with his blankets looking undisturbed from the night before.

Despite thinking it was unusual for the tot to be lying on his stomach, she didn’t want to disturb him and went downstairs to sit with her mum.

However, shortly after Liza’s mum asked how the baby was doing – she started to panic and sprinted to his room.

Lamar, 40, wrote: “His face was a dark blue. He wasn’t breathing. Liza screamed hysterically. Liza’s mother, a registered nurse, immediately took Jayden.”

Liza instantly rang the emergency services and within minutes paramedics were on their way.

Lamar was in Manhattan, New York at the time and instantly headed for the hospital fearing something had happened to his eldest son.

He added: “Fifteen minutes after I got there, a doctor entered the room and grasped Liza’s hand. There were tears in the doctor’s eyes.

“‘I’m sorry’, she said. ‘As a mother, I’ve experienced crib death, too’

“Crib death. That was the first time I had ever heard that term. I didn’t know what it was. Jayden had died from sudden infant death syndrome.”

The 40-year-old continued: “It just didn’t make sense to us. How could our baby just die in his crib? This couldn’t be a real thing. I was stunned, numb, almost emotionless. I couldn’t move.

“I did not cry then. Or the next day. I did not cry for Jayden for three years. I thought if I cried it would make it real. I did not cry so that he might live.”
