Cold Feet’s John Thomson reads graphic books about serial killers to ensure no one sits next to him on trains.
The comedian and actor loves to delve into gruesome horror and true crime tomes when he is travelling to pass the time.
And he has found it is the ultimate deterrent and puts people off sitting anywhere near him.
He said: “I am a huge fan of true crime. I love books on profilers and serial killers.
“But some of the covers are quite graphic and it will guarantee me a table seat in a train alone. It’s just what you want.”
Thomson reckons his choice of reading matter makes up for the fact he is not an alpha male.
He tells BBC Two’s Between The Covers on Wednesday: “I feel I am half a man. I am teetotal and I hate football and all sports so I try to make up for it in the written word.”
The star also recalls how he had an hilarious encounter with the late 007 actor Sir Roger Moore.
He said: “I met him in make-up at Prince Charles’ 50th birthday for the Princes Trust.
“He came in and the make-up lady said ‘What can we do for you, Roger?” and he said ‘Just fill in the cracks, darling’.”
Earlier this year, John appeared. on ITV’s The Masked Singer as Bush Baby.
The TV star has claimed to have had some struggles during the competition.
Speaking in a new interview, costume designer for The Masked Singer and The Masked Dancer, Tim Simpson, dished on the celebrities wearing his designs on the ITV show.
Tim revealed that John struggled with his costume as he found it incredibly hot.
“He nearly cried,” recalled Tim to Radio Times. “He described himself as a man who sweats on a cold winter’s day, and we then stuck him inside the most furry, insulated costume in the entire series.”
