BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty left fans applauding as she clapped back at one Twitter troll who branded her “condescending” and “arrogant”.
The journalist, who is best known for presenting the BBC morning programme alongside Charlie Stayt, was taking no prisoners on social media when one supposed fan of the show lashed out at her.
In one tweet, the troll hit out at Naga – even tagging her in the post to make sure she would see.
It came after an exchange on BBC Breakfast which saw Naga question Welsh First Minister Mark Drakeford on the lifting of Covid restrictions, questioning: “People in Wales will be wondering why the restrictions haven’t been eased like in England?”
As Drakeford replied: “We do things in line with the science. We are a government that doesn’t need to grab headlines to distract attention.”
“@TVNaga01 I’m curious to know: were you born with that arrogant and condescending tone of voice, or is it just something you’ve honed to perfection at the Beeb?
“First Minister of Wales 1, supposed BBC journalist 0.”
Naga, however, wasn’t having any of it on social media, as she quoted the viewer’s tweet to respond: “Curiosity is a great quality.
“Hope that isn’t too condescending for you x”.
And her true fans quickly flocked to the replies section in support of the journalist, as one posted: “If a man had asked a question in that way it would’ve been thought of as assertive! It drives me insane – I think you’re fabulous Naga!”
“I completely admire you! See you on telly, doing an amazing job […] I had no idea the amount of dog mess you have to clean off [your] social media doorstep. Keep pressing on!” someone else said.
As a third fan echoed: “@TVNaga01 you have no need to comment. There’s overwhelming support for your excellent journalism here. Not sure @MarkDrakeford would be unhappy either. He was able to get his point over. Continue being inspirational please!”
It comes just days after Naga was cheekily told off by her co-star Mike Bushell live on-air as she couldn’t help giggling when his segment went wrong.
During a chat about cricket, Mike said: “The men are still licking their wounds after their Ashes humiliation..”
Stopping his report, he said: “Naga’s laughing at that…” before pointing over to where Naga was sitting on the red sofa.
Defending herself, Naga started laughing as she told him: “I’m not laughing!”
Mike continued: “I saw you snigger…”
Munchetty explained: “I actually kicked my foot and I hurt my foot and I hurt myself, sorry, so I was wincing.”
