BBC Breakfast fans blown away by Charlie Stayt's real age as he 'looks 10 years younger'

BBC Breakfast fans simply can’t believe presenter Charlie Stayt’s real age after he let slip he wasn’t quite as young as they thought.

On Thursday (August 25), Charlie and his regular co-host Naga Munchetty were chatting to a 92-year-old man who decided to resit his mathematics GCSE and was preparing to open his results.

The ensuing interview saw Charlie and Derek Skipper reminisce about the sliding rule used in maths classrooms of yore, before being phased out and replaced with calculators for the new-style GCSE exams.

The segment clued viewers in on just how long ago Charlie was attending school to remember such a tool, and they simply couldn’t believe his real age as he looks “ten years younger”.

Charlie is actually 60 years old, with his birthday coming on the 19th of June every year.

He was born in 1962.

Taking to Twitter in disbelief, one fan penned: “I was questioning how old Charlie Stayt is after he said this morning on @BBCBreakfast that he’d used a slide rule at school, only to be informed that he’s 60.

“I was shocked. I always presumed that he was younger than me. I have to say that he’s looking good!”

Another fan echoed: “Charlie looks 10 years younger with a spring in his step!”, as a third couldn’t help but gush: “We share the same birthday. Same year. He looks better for his age than me!”

Commenting on a snap of Charlie crouching down outside 10 Downing Street to ‘interview’ Larry the cat, someone else gushed: “Very impressed that Charlie can still squat like that, my knees wouldn’t allow that at all, and we’re the same age, almost.”

It comes as viewers begged Naga Munchetty to join the reboot of iconic game show Gladiators, as she transformed wearing one of the historic costumes.

Naga couldn’t resist donning part of her old costume as she collapsed into giggles on the couch, wearing a bright red padded vest before strapping herself into the helmet.

Fans immediately flocked to Twitter to share their love of Naga’s new look, with one penning: “Is [Naga] secretly hinting she wants to be on the reboot of Gladiators?”

Another eager viewer gushed: “Just turned on BBC Breakfast and wow, @TVNaga01 take a bow, can’t wait to see you in the celebrity version!”

BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
