Jonathan Ross has emphatically denied being the instigator of his daughter’s harmful diets.
The 63-year-old chat show star and his wife Jane, 53, had found themselves at the centre of divided opinion debate four years ago. This after their middle daughter Honey opened up about her unhealthy relationship with food and her body.
Jane and her TV husband, who are also parents to Betty Kitten and Harvey Kirby, were claimed to have presented their middle child with “absolutely toxic” diets. It was deemed as a last chance saloon to support their child who had always suffered with body confidence issues.

During a bombshell interview on Loose Women in 2020, Honey told the panel how her parents had been blinded with finding a “solution to the problem”. They saw weight loss as the only means of assisting their daughter who “hated” her body at the time.
Honey admitted on the ITV programme that finding Instagram had helped her to once again find peace with how she looked. But before social media and from a young age, she’d always struggled to “have any control over [her] image.”
She told the panel members: “I have parents who were raised in the same society as all of us. They saw me, a teenage girl coming home saying, I hate my body.
“[My parents] tried to give me solutions to a problem I brought to them, which was to lose weight. They presented me with diets and diets, as we know, don’t work and are absolutely toxic.”
The activist and podcaster went on to warn parents about the mental harm that could be suffered through fad diets. She urged careers and guardians of children to “keep that as far away from your children as possible”.
But four years on, in an interview with The Times, Jonathan has shot down Honey’s claims that he and his screen writing wife Jane had never pushed diets on Honey. He said: “Honey did struggle at school because we found out she was severely dyslexic.
The TV host added: “She also developed some body issues when she very young and we could see it was making her unhappy. She talked about getting fitter and going on a diet, which Jane and I tried to help her with.
He added: “Crucially, though, the minute that Honey said she wanted to stop the diet, we said, ‘Great!’ Some of the headlines have hinted that we were the instigators of the diet, but we took our cues from Honey.”
Jonathan finished up telling the publication: “We loved her dearly and we wanted her to be happy.” He also hailed his daughter as being a “smart adult”, sharing his pride with how she’s gone on to help others with her body-positive content online.
