Friends icon Courteney Cox says her late co-star Matthew Perry still visits her from beyond the grave.
The Monica Gellar star admitted that working with the Chandler Bing star – who played her on-screen husband in the sitcom – for so long means he’s still around, and says she can “sense” the late actor. Chatting to CBS Sunday Morning, Courteney said: “I’m so thankful I got to work so closely with him for so many years. He visits me a lot, if we believe in that.
“I talk to my mom, my dad, Matthew. I feel like there are a lot of people that, I think, guide us. I do sense… I sense Matthew’s around for sure.” She originally paid tribute to Matthew a month after his death, writing in an emotional statement alongside snaps from Friends filming: “I am so grateful for every moment I had with you Matty and I miss you every day.

“When you work with someone as closely as I did with Matthew, there are thousands of moments I wish I could share. In this scene, before we started rolling, he whispered a funny line for me to say. He often did things like that. He was funny and he was kind.”
Matthew was pronounced dead on October 28th, 2023, at the age of just 54. He was found unresponsive in his hot tub at his California home, with the autopsy later ruling his death accidental. He died from “acute effects of ketamine”, with drowning, coronary artery disease and opioid use also listed as contributing factors to his death.
His co-star Jennifer Aniston, who played Rachel Green in Friends, said she chatted with Matthew the day he died. She explained to Variety: “He was healthy. He had quit smoking. He was getting in shape. He was happy — that’s all I know.
“I was literally texting with him that morning, funny Matty. He was not in pain. He wasn’t struggling.”
Piecing together the timeline of his death, Matthew played pickleball with a female friend on Saturday morning (October 28), who described him as “fatigued”. He later returned to his home, sent an assistant out on an errand, and two hours later was found dead in his outdoor jacuzzi at 4pm.
His staffer made a 911 call, with the 15-second recording referring to a potential drowning. Sadly he was later pronounced dead.

The Friends cast issued a joint statement at the time, which read: “We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family.
“There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss. In time we will say more, as and when we are able. For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world.”
