TV star admits he had to film four sex scenes in a day for new period drama

The lead actor for a new period drama hit has confessed he had to film four racy sex scenes in just one day.

Fans of period drama Bridgerton have been living it up as the next series hits our screens thanks to streaming platform Netflix. But it is not the only drama to get fans hot under the collar.

The latest show to give period drama fans something to chew over is Mary & George. The programme stars heartthrob Nicholas Galitzine and Hollywood icon Julianne Moore playing his mother Mary Villiers, the Countess of Buckingham.

But while Bridgerton might have fans talking over the drama of the show, Mary & George has had viewers up in arms over the amount of raunchiness in the show. With a slew of steamy X-rated scenes, the show, which recently premiered on Sky Atlantic, has been shocking people with its raw depiction of naughtiness.

The premise of the show is based on the true story of Mary, who orders her son to seduce King James I of England. Set in the 1600s, the programme is packed to the seams with heavy petting, including a series of orgies.

Looking back at the filming process, Galitzine – who played George on the show – admitted that the sexual tension was rife as the cameras rolled. Things also got so strong that several sex scenes were filmed a day.

“There was one day where we did about four sex scenes in one day,” Nicholas recalled. “I was going from room to room meeting strangers and saying, ‘Hi, I am Nick, nice to meet you. OK, this is the position we’re going to be in’.”

In order to keep things safe, yet raunchy, the show had brought in an intimacy co-ordinator to give the actors the best look on-screen. “We had such a wonderful intimacy coordinator, and for the day players who came in for these singular scenes, I hope I made them feel comfortable, but I’m so proud of all that work that we did together,” he added.

The premise of the series comes from the non-fiction book The King’s Assassin, where Mary brings her son into the spotlight against his wishes. Known for being charming and charismatic, he immediately serves a purpose for the Countess as he is sent out to win over King James, so that she can climb the ranks in her status.

Mary begins to pressure George as he tries to seduce His Majesty, as she demands money and status, in a bid to make herself one of the most powerful people in the country. But as George worms his way into the King’s life, drama unfolds as the show gradually takes a bloodier turn.

Fans have been losing it since the show started airing on Sky Atlantic in March. Having seen the trailer, one excited fan penned: “Please check on your gay Nicholas Galitzine obsessed friends today – we are not okay.”
