BBC Breakfast’s Jon Kay didn’t hold back on slamming the “dull” autumn weather while Sally Nugent wondered just how grim the forecast might be.
The dynamic duo were perched on their usual red sofa Monday morning, diving into the day’s top stories. But when it came to the weather chat, Sally and Jon weren’t exactly betting on sunshine and rainbows.
Matt Taylor, chuckling at Sally’s comment, chimed in: “It’s been a familiar story. Yeah, I do have a little brightness every now and again, Sally. A very good morning to you.”
Despite some lucky spots getting a glimpse of blue skies, Matt had a heads-up for viewers: brace yourselves for “downpours” that could pack a punch with “heavy and thundery side” surprises.
On Sunday night, Matt hit up social media platform X to give his followers the lowdown on what’s brewing, reports the Express.
He teased: “Lots of weather to talk about on @BBCBreakfast tomorrow. Including… Hurricane Kirk (below)”.
“Growing certainty it’ll shimmy past the UK’s south, BUT will some areas feel a brush from it, and what’s the knock-on effect for the rest? Catch you at the crack of dawn, 6am.”
A fan, joining in the banter, quipped back: “I’ve heard it’s going to take a sharp left at Clapham Junction.”
Jon shot back with a witty retort: “Might not be possible… over-running engineering works.”
Matt has been a familiar face on BBC Weather for an impressive 20 years. He kicked off his career as a Met Office meteorologist in 1998 before joining the BBC Weather team in 2004, initially based at the Cardiff weather centre.
He now delivers weather updates across various BBC platforms, including BBC One, BBC News, BBC World News, Radio 1, Radio 2, Radio 4 and 5 Live. In addition to this, he’s a regular weather presenter on BBC Breakfast, primarily at weekends, and frequently provides forecasts for Radio 4’s Today programme.
BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
