Lizzie Cundy narrowly dodged an uncomfortable encounter with her ex-pal Meghan Markle at a recent charity event in the US.
The pair initially became friends back in 2013 when they met at a charity event in London. Lizzie, 56, claims that Meghan had asked her to introduce her to “famous men”, but claims she was abruptly cut off by Meghan after she started dating Prince Harry.
The potential for an icy reunion at the 2024 Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) Gala on Saturday was avoided. Lizzie, who has been in LA working on various projects, almost faced embarrassment as she was dressed similarly to Meghan in a red dress.

However, the mother-of-two left the event following the red carpet photocall, allowing Lizzie to mingle with A-list stars like Jamie Lee Curtis and Demi Lovato.
An insider told The Sun that Lizzie felt “relieved” when Meghan exited the event early, as she still feels “hurt” from being harshly dropped by the Royal after she began seeing Harry. “It would have been incredibly awkward, given Lizzie didn’t even get an invite to the wedding,” the source elaborated.
Lizzie has openly discussed her friendship with Meghan, reports the Mirror, recalling how they bonded at a charity dinner in 2013. “We were having a girly chat and then she said, ‘Do you know any famous guys? I’m single and I really love English men.’ So I said, ‘We’ll go out and find you someone,'” she shared.
She also revealed that Meghan had divorced her first husband Trevor Engelson just three months prior to their meeting.
In her autobiography, Tales From The Red Carpet, Lizzie disclosed who she had in mind for Meghan’s date. “I was thinking about some of the Chelsea lot and I thought of Ashley Cole as he’d split from Cheryl. I showed her a photo of Ashley and she was like, ‘Oh yeah, he’s cute. Does he have a reputation?’ I was like, ‘Well, yeah, but you’re only here to have a bit of fun,'” Lizzie penned.
The ladies met again the next day at another gala in London, where Lizzie noted that Meghan “liked a drink” and was great fun. “I remember her asking about my boys. She was very interested and asking lots of questions. Usually you find actresses just talk about themselves. She was really fun, really sweet. I liked her,” she admitted.
However, Lizzie was ditched by Meghan when she began dating Harry, and she discovered their relationship on the internet. “I texted saying, ‘Oh my god, I heard about Harry.’ And she was like, ‘Yeah I know. We’ll try and hook up,'” Lizzie remembered, before sorrowfully noting that Meghan then severed all connections with her.
“She was probably told by the Palace to end contact with people she befriended in the media. I was literally ghosted by her,” she divulged.
