Coronation Street fans floored as Debbie Webster wedding ends in major Carl and Abi twist

Coronation Street fans were left on the edge of their seats as Debbie Webster and Ronnie’s wedding was rocked by a range of dramatic revelations in true soap fashion

Coronation Street viewers were left stunned as shocking revelations unfolded during Debbie Webster’s wedding day. The hotel owner, portrayed by Sue Devaney, has endured a series of family upheavals throughout the past year, including her brother Kevin’s marriage breakdown following his wife Abi’s affair with her sibling Carl.

Adding to her troubles, she received a devastating vascular dementia diagnosis, yet remained resolute that nothing would derail her special day as she prepared to marry Ronnie Bailey in Friday’s instalment of the ITV drama. However, in typical Coronation Street fashion, events took an unexpected turn when Kevin arrived at the nuptials determined to expose what he had uncovered about his brother.

Earlier this year, Kevin’s workmate Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) was confined to a wheelchair following injuries sustained in a hit-and-run incident, with the perpetrator’s identity remaining unknown until recent developments. On New Year’s Day, Kevin stumbled upon CCTV footage showing Carl getting into the vehicle that struck Tyrone.

During a heated exchange with ex-spouse Abi, she accidentally revealed that she had learned of his intentions to flee back to Germany, where he had spent most of his years before arriving on the Manchester cobbles months earlier. As the wedding ceremony commenced, Kevin declared to Abi: “He needs showing up for what he is. He needs to pay. And if you won’t, I will.”

At the wedding reception, Kevin began his speech and announced he had a video to share, reports the Mirror.

However, when he hit play, it was replaced with footage of him and his son Jack dancing to Kylie Minogue’s classic Can’t Get You Out Of My Head. Wedding attendees held back Kevin as he attempted to confront Carl, demanding to know the whereabouts of Jack’s laptop.

He furiously accused: “He was driving the car what hit Tyrone! It was you, I’ve got proof!” Despite his claims, Carl denied everything, and Kevin’s plan seemed to have backfired, with even Tyrone refusing to believe him.

Later, an irate Abi confronted Carl in his suite, stating: “I think you probably did drive that car into Tyrone, and Kevin had proof.”

At this point, Carl produced Jack’s laptop and dropped it on the floor. Recognising her error in orchestrating their entire affair, Abi declared: “Kevin is a better man than you’ll ever be,” to which Carl callously dismissed the whole situation as “just a bit of fun” anyway.

Nearly in tears, Abi declared: “I threw my life up in the air for you. I hurt everyone I cared about. I risked my son’s happiness,” but Carl showed absolutely no compassion towards her.

Yet more chaos was brewing as bride Debbie began fretting about Carl, and remained sceptical of Kevin’s explosive claims, prompting her to confront Carl and demand answers.

Viewers of the soap will recall that last week, Carl discovered that his mum, Elaine, had died, and that Debbie had concealed from him that she’d received a phone call from Elaine revealing her illness.

When Debbie pressed Carl to clarify exactly what had transpired with Tyrone, Carl brandished an old Post-it note and declared: “Truth? Let’s talk about the truth. Call Elaine back. It’s from your flat. So? So my mum called you, and you called you back. It’s ticked! It’s done, it happened. You spoke to my mum before she died and didn’t tell me? ! You said that you hadn’t spoken to her, you promised me that you’d had no idea that she was dying until she had gone.”

Unable to refute the evidence, Debbie attempted to blame her dementia, but Carl wouldn’t accept that as justification, leading Debbie to remind him of his troubled relationship with Elaine. Carl exploded: “So you were protecting me? ! Oh, thanks very much, sis! But I don’t need it. And I could have sorted things out with her. She could’ve apologised to me. She could’ve told me that she loved me. But you took that away, didn’t you? Didn’t you? !” Carl then stormed out, leaving Debbie devastated and in tears.

Viewers immediately took to social media to react to the explosive scenes, with one posting on X: “Carl is a massive piece of s***!” Another declared: “Oh Carl is nasty,” whilst a third commented: “Abi and Carl finally arguing over what he’s been doing to her. I’ve been waiting for this moment.”

However, some fans criticised Kevin’s handling of the situation, with one viewer posting on Reddit: “The Kevin part was annoying too, could he not just said it out loud in front of everyone instead of acting so erratically which made him look like the crazy one or had just gone straight to the police with the evidence since he did end up ruining Debbie’s day anyway,” Another agreed, saying: “Kevin couldn’t wait till after Debbie’s wedding! Now that just p***** me off, they couldn’t give her one day”.

Carl’s backstory remains largely mysterious, though it’s been revealed he was raised in Germany with his parents Bill and Elaine Webster. Bill was Kevin (Michael Le Vell) and Debbie Webster’s (Sue Devaney) father, whilst their mother Alison never featured in the show, having passed away in 1980.

Carl was subsequently born to Bill and Elaine off-screen in 1986. When Ronnie commented to Debbie last week about how strange it was that Elaine hadn’t contacted the family, Debbie disclosed: “She tried to. Recently. I just… I just forgot to tell him. With everything going on, it just… it just went out of my head.

“I haven’t told Carl – I can’t. He’d never forgive me. Ronnie, don’t tell him, will you? I feel terrible, really terrible.”

When Ronnie comforted Debbie, insisting it wasn’t her fault and she hadn’t done it deliberately, she remained silent and shot him a peculiar glance.
