BBC star shares hospital update as fans flood her with support after amputation

A BBC favourite has been inundated with messages of love after revealing she was back in hospital following a life-changing leg amputation, with fans praising her strength and bravery

Ruth Codd has shared a major health milestone after undergoing a second leg amputation. The BBC Celebrity Traitors star had her right leg removed below the knee at 23, following complications from a severe foot injury sustained whilst playing football as a teenager.

Last November, the now 29-year-old TV star revealed she was recuperating at her parents’ house after having surgery to remove her second lower leg. In a touching new update posted recently, the actress disclosed she can now walk again.

After being confined to a wheelchair for several weeks, Celebrity Traitors star Ruth has since started her rehabilitation.

Posting on TikTok just days ago, Ruth uploaded footage of herself practising walking on her prosthetic legs, gripping metal rails in the hospital ward whilst stepping cautiously.

She captioned the video: “When you have no legs left to amputate so you’re wondering what you’re going to do for attention in 2026.”

The post garnered over 300,000 likes as supporters rushed to praise her accomplishment, reports the Express.

One wrote: “Superhero.” Another replied: “Sending you so much love,” whilst a third added: “The determination is everything.”

A fourth commented: “Genuinely you’re such a strong person, you’ll also find a way to get the attention I’m sure ha.”

Discussing her recent surgery in November, Ruth explained: “Good news, we’ve had a full-circle moment. I’m back making TikTok content in my parents’ house. Bad news, I can’t do it upstairs, because I’ve just had my second below-knee amputation.”

She further commented: “There’s a lot to unpack for everyone involved.”

The actress first gained popularity through her TikTok posts, before landing a role in the Netflix horror series The Midnight Club, marking her television debut.

Recently, viewers of Celebrity Traitors witnessed Ruth voicing her accurate suspicions about fellow contestant Jonathan Ross, prior to her character’s demise on the show.

Earlier in 2025, the actress featured in a live-action remake of How To Train Your Dragon.

In this film, she portrayed Phlegma the Fierce, a Viking warrior missing part of her leg.
