Ex-Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson rants why running pub is hardest thing he’s done

The Grand Tour star Jeremy Clarkson has said he has found running his very own pub as being the biggest challenger of his career, even hard than tackling thought corners of a race track or cleaning up on a farm23:00, 07 Sep 2025Updated 23:12, 07 Sep 2025Jeremy Clarkson has claimed that running a pub is the hardest job he has ever done. The ex-Top Gear host whined that being landlord of his boozer The Farmer’s Dog creates a huge number of challenges. His watering hole has suffered a string of setbacks including a cyber attack last week which cost him £27,000.Jeremy, 65, said: “Running a pub is harder than eating one. It’s harder than anything. Even farming.“This is why one pub in the UK is closing every day at the moment.“It’s hard enough dealing with all the vomit and the faeces and the fights, but when you factor in the local authority, and taxation, and the government’s exciting new laws on workers’ rights, it becomes nigh-on impossible to stay sane.”Jeremy Clarkson finds it hardwork behind the bar(Image: Jam Press/@jeremyclarkson1)His rant came after Hollywood legend Rupert Everett, 66, teamed up with 30 people from the village of Enford, Wilts, in a bid to keep their local pub open.Jeremy said: “Rupert should be aware that some aspects of pub ownership do cause a landlord’s shoulders to sag a bit.“And I’m not talking about the ludicrous taxes that publicans have to pay, or the difficulties of finding staff, or the issues with national insurance.“For example: a lady came to my pub recently and, after enjoying several glasses of our wonderful Hedgerow cider, had a stumble and then tripped over her hair extensions, which caused her to vomit explosively into her own cleavage.A lot harder than battling with supercars on a race track(Image: PA)“Rupert probably isn’t ready for that situation, and he certainly won’t be prepared for what happened next. She fished handfuls of the sick from her bra and then passed it to our manageress.”The Clarkson’s Farm star added: “Or how about this one? A little girl in the garden became a bit upset because a little boy from the next table had nicked one of the pine cones she was using to build a castle.“History doesn’t relate what happened next, but whatever it was, the two fathers decided that the only solution was to try to strangle each other.”Clarkson also said he would like to ban customers with food intolerances but admitted it would be “commercial suicide”.Even farm live is easier than running a pub(Image: Tom Wren / SWNS)Recent research warned that boozers face being blitzed by 2035.Article continues belowCampaigners said watering holes will serve their last orders in a decade unless the public do more to support their local.Insurance firm Simply Business forecasted last year that overall 132,945 small businesses on UK high streets will be extinct in 15 years. ITV Loose Women branded ‘insensitive’ over huge ITV star’s ‘lifetime ban’

Kavana has detailed the moment he was given a ‘lifetime ban’ from ITV’s Loose Women, saying that he has flashbacks and helps himself to a ‘slug of beer’ when he remembers22:13, 07 Sep 2025Updated 22:13, 07 Sep 2025Kavana has spoken candidly about his personal struggles in his new memoir(Image: ITV)90s pop icon Kavana has disclosed that he was slapped with a ‘lifetime ban’ from Loose Women due to his conduct behind the scenes. The musician, whose birth name is Anthony Gerard Kavanagh, appeared on the daytime programme in 2007 for an interview and live performance, but confessed things went badly wrong, resulting in his permanent exclusion from the ITV talk show. The 47-year-old artist, famous for his Top 10 smash I Can Make You Feel Good, has opened up in his latest autobiography Pop Scars about his battle with substance abuse during his career peak, admitting his recollection of that particular TV appearance is virtually non-existent.He penned: “I can’t remember much of my ‘performance’ on Loose Women apart from the odd flashback, which every time one comes, I slug a mouthful of beer at the harrowing thought. When someone, especially your new TV and theatre agent, leaves you a voicemail at 10am saying it’s urgent, it’s usually not the best news, is it?” Kavana attends the UK Premiere of “The Roses” last month (Image: Dave Benett/WireImage)Reflecting on the subsequent phone call with his representative, Kavana revealed he was informed: “I’m afraid they’re not happy with you. They have given you a lifetime ban on Loose Women. You can never go on again.”Kavana also remembered how ITV chat show bosses were far from pleased when he vanished from the set for a quarter of an hour, leaving studio staff frantically searching for him before discovering him in a nearby pub just moments before his scheduled appearance. He further disclosed that producers were shocked when he grilled then-panellist Carol McGiffin about intimate details of her personal life, reports the Mirror. His agent later told him: “You then had to be escorted off the premises and helped into the car by the driver, who, by the way, nearly didn’t agree to take you, due to you being so drunk. You then insisted he reroute the booking and take you all the way to Soho and drop you there!”.Earlier this year, Kavana appeared on fellow ITV Daytime programme Lorraine, where he discussed how little understanding there was around ‘mental health’ during his rise to stardom.Chatting to stand-in presenter Christine Lampard, Kavana said: “A memoir can be about anything, and although it does talk about fame, it’s a lot about what happens after fame to someone,” he began.Kavana performing in 1997 (Image: Getty Images)”It starts when I’m 18, and talks about my journey, my rollercoaster through 90s pop.”Discussing that turbulent period, Kavana opened up about the “dark times” he endured. He revealed: “In those days, late 90s, there was no talk about mental health, we didn’t have a word for stuff like that, or bulimia, I’m not saying I struggled very much with that but I was very conscious with how I looked, and also I was in the closet and hiding my sexuality, I didn’t have any advice on what to say or what not to say.Article continues below”For me, because I didn’t know it at the time but I am an alcoholic, I found alcohol which was medicine. It completely took away any fear, any anxiety, it became my boyfriend, it became my medicine, and it worked for a long, long time.”Addressing his audience, he then encouraged anyone battling with alcohol to seek assistance, stating: “Three years ago before I got sober, I would have to drink, not because I wanted to get drunk, not because I wanted to have fun, but because I needed it as important as oxygen to get through the day.”If anyone is watching this, there is help out there. I’d say my DMs are open, I can try and give some advice but there is help. Speak to somebody, don’t be ashamed, because once I surrendered, that’s when the light got in. And I’ve been trying to write this for 10 years and it wasn’t until I got sober that it happened.” More

Royal Family member was offered a place on the Traitors – but turned it down

The Traitors is known for its chaos and backstabbing, but the smash BBC show could have had the royal touch for its celebrity series as bosses approached a major royal to take part22:02, 07 Sep 2025A huge royal figure could have been causing mischief on the BBC smash show(Image: BBC)One of the most popular members of the Royal Family was invited to take part in the celebrity version of The Traitors. However, they decided to turn the chance down — despite being a “fan of the show”.The smash BBC series is gearing up for another civilian series in the new year, while a celebrity edition of the show is due to get underway in just a few days time. Some of the biggest names in the business are set to star in the show, including former Olympian Tom Daley and ex-QI host Stephen Fry.But there was one celebrity that could given a royal touch to the dark and mysterious proceedings as she was approached by the BBC to come onto the programme. However, she opted to leave the opportunity behind her, arguing she could never be a traitor nor a faithful. The Sun reported that Sarah, Duchess of York was not amongst the line-up for the upcoming edition that will see famous faces take each other on in a bid to win thousands of pounds for charity. In a small change to the civilian series, the winning prize fund is capped at £100,00 — but this does not mean there won’t be any backstabbing, gossiping and strategy.Sarah, Duchess of York was one of the first celebrities to bee approached for a celebrity Traitors(Image: Getty Images)According to sources at the show, Sarah — who was married to disgraced royal Prince Andrew — was in contention to join the line-up for the celebrity edition. Insiders close to the programme confirmed this to the Express, adding: “We got the impression she was a fan of the show but eventually turned it down on the basis that she doesn’t do celebrity shows.”That doesn’t mean the BBC has given up on trying to get her to take part in a future series, however,” the source added. They also claimed that the royal was one of the first people to be approached about taking part in the new series, but ultimately declined the offer.A number of other major players are set to walk through the doors of the illustrious castle in the Scottish Highlands for the Celebrity Traitors. These include GMB anchor Kate Garraway, singer Paloma Faith and comedian Alan Carr, to name just a few.A whole set of famous faces are set to walk into the iconic Scottish castle in just a matter of days(Image: BBC / Studio Lambert)Speaking on the idea of the celebrity spin-off of the main show, host Claudia Winkleman welcomed the idea of an all-star cast. “We’re incredibly lucky these brilliant people have said yes,” she beamed.”I’d love to say we’ll take it easy on them and they’ll just wander round the castle and eat toast for a couple of weeks but that would be a lie,” she joked. The official series is set to get underway in just a few days time. And while the first season is not even out for the public to gorge on, the BBC confirmed that a second series of the celebrity version has already been greenlit by bosses at the broadcaster. Speaking to the Sun, one anonymous source said that the plan was to “quietly” renew the celebrity version of the show for a second season.Article continues belowIt comes after the BBC opted to renew the show for a second season — despite the fact the first season has not aired(Image: BBC)”It just proves how confident they are that the celeb version is going to be a huge hit,” they explained. “They haven’t seen the viewer reaction yet but bosses have watched early edits of the first series now that filming has wrapped and it’s exceeded all their wildest expectations.”For the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters. Vernon Kay says ‘I just got fired’ after giving BBC Radio 2 co-star flirty compliment

TV presenter Vernon Kay was left fearing for his job after he made a cheeky comment about his BBC Radio 2 co-star Michelle Visage, who is friends with his wife Tess Daly16:47, 07 Sep 2025Vernon opened up about the work incident(Image: Getty Images for EJAF)BBC Radio 2’s Vernon Kay quipped that he was about to receive “the sack” after indulging in some playful banter with Radio 2 in the Park co-presenter Michelle Visage who happens to be mates with his Strictly host wife, Tess Daly. The duo had been broadcasting live from Hylands Park in Chelmsford for Radio 2’s beloved annual festival, which featured acts including Marti Pellow, pop star Jessie J and Essex boy Olly Murs.Michelle, 56, who launched her career with girl group Seduction before achieving fame as a judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race, had been remarking on the scorching heat at the venue on Saturday.Vernon, 51, cheekily replied: “But wherever you are is always hot,” before telling Michelle to write down his flattery and send it to herself.”Put it in an envelope and send it back home,” he advised. “When you go home, you can open that envelope. And you know what it’ll say? You’re hot,” reports the Mirror.Vernon is married to Tess DalyRealising his flirtatious comments might have overstepped the mark, Vernon bashfully confessed: “I just got fired,” prompting giggles from former Strictly star Michelle. While Vernon was joking about getting the chop, his radio guest, comedian Josh Widdecombe, was discussing venturing into fresh territory. After taking over Phil Daniels’ role for a performance of Blur’s Parklife at the festival, Josh boasted that he could fill the boots of the band’s frontman Damon Albarn.Fearne Cotton was caught on camera attempting to persuade several other Radio 2 in the Park staff members to join in the fun, trying to encourage some security personnel to participate in the Macarena routine. Unfortunately, she only succeeded in getting “a bit of a twitch at the end.”Vernon appeared in excellent form at the BBC gathering, sharing his sense of relief following an “anxious” period at home. Towards the end of last month, he revealed to supporters that he couldn’t “stop crying” after finally learning his daughter Amber’s GCSE results. He co-hosted with Michelle Visage(Image: Getty Images)The 51-year-old broadcaster admitted to experiencing “a week of anxiety” in the run-up to results day, telling colleague Scott Mills: “I can’t stop crying Scott, I seriously can’t stop crying. It’s GCSE results day today and we’ve done alright.”He went on to elaborate on his views regarding the importance of a pupil’s GCSE performance: “I think GCSEs are more important than A-levels,” Vernon declared. “Because from A-levels onwards, you can kind of fudge, you can blag a little bit because you’ve got a little bit of something about you, but GCSEs are tough, it’s the first major step, well it’s not a step, it’s a stride.”His 15-year-old daughter’s examination triumph left Vernon emotionally moved: “I ain’t gonna lie, the girls have seen me crying this morning because our eldest filmed, with her phone on her lap, Amber getting her GCSE results, and I’ve watched it more than a dozen times, and I keep welling up, so just allow me today please.”He admitted that his own academic performance had been subpar, confessing: “I am holding my hands up in the studio, my GCSE results [and] my A-levels were dreadful because I’m just not built for studying for exams, I’m more of a practical person.”Article continues belowWant all the biggest Showbiz and TV news straight to your inbox? Tommy Fury was celebrated at the finish line of a French Riviera triathlon, but official records show he didn’t complete the full course due to surprising reason15:50, 07 Sep 2025Molly-Mae met him at the finish line(Image: Molly-Mae Hague/Instagram)Tommy Fury was celebrated at the finish line of a French Riviera triathlon, but official records show he didn’t complete the full course due to road closures. The Love Island star, who rose to fame on the ITV2 reality show in 2019, was cheered on by partner Molly-Mae Hague and their daughter Bambi as he crossed the finish line in dramatic fashion. The couple, who met in the villa and have become one of the show’s most high-profile success stories, shared the emotional moment with followers on social media.Afterwards, Fury took to Instagram to declare: “I left it all out in the French Riviera. 100km triathlon on 10 days training…. completed.” He also shared footage of his sprint finish, adding: “Go ahead and roast my form… but could you sprint finish after a 100km triathlon?”Tommy received some criticism(Image: T100 Triathlon via Getty Images)However, official timings from the event told a different story as data revealed that Fury did not complete the 80km cycling section of the gruelling course. His tracker stopped at 48km and he was officially recorded as a “DNF” (Did Not Finish).Event organisers later explained that strict road closure rules meant many amateur participants, around 93 in total, had to cut their bike rides short. To ensure they could still experience the finish line, entrants were allowed to continue onto the 18km run and complete the event in front of family and friends. His data said DNF(Image: T100 Triathlon via Getty Images)For Molly-Mae, the finish was still a proud moment as the 25-year-old influencer has often spoken about how sport is such a huge part of the Fury family’s life, with Tommy’s older brother Tyson dominating the boxing world. She shared supportive clips from the sidelines, showing Bambi watching her dad power through to the end.Article continues belowBut not everyone was impressed as critics on social media questioned Fury’s claims, with one triathlete commenting: “Missed the swim cut off, and bike cut off? Just be honest.” Another wrote: “DNF, which is fine but own IT!”Supporters, however, praised his determination, with one fan insisting: “Insane achievement… be proud… only 0.01% of the world’s population ever completing this!”Want all the biggest Showbiz and TV news straight to your inbox? Katie Price seen for first time since cancer scare looking frail after medical tests

Katie Price has been seen for the first time since undergoing medical tests amid fears her cancer may have returned, with the mum-of-five showing off her slender frameLucretia Munro TV Reporter and Carly Hacon Showbiz Reporter14:41, 07 Sep 2025Updated 14:43, 07 Sep 2025Katie has been undergoing health scares(Image: Getty Images for The Cambridge Union)Katie Price has been displaying an alarmingly thin figure in recent months, and now the mother-of-five has blamed her dramatic weight loss on a health concern amid worries that her cancer might have made a comeback.Katie, 47, was previously diagnosed with a rare soft tissue cancer on her finger known as leiomyosarcoma. Following its removal and six years of careful medical supervision, Katie received the all-clear from doctors.Yet in recent weeks, the television personality has voiced concerns that her cancer could have returned. Her revelation comes shortly before she was spotted in public for the first time since making her troubling confession, reports the Mirror.Dressed in a form-fitting grey vest top paired with matching grey tracksuit bottoms, the reality star finished her outfit with a black jumper tied around her waist as she set off for the opening night of her tour with Kerry Katona. The star has suffered a cancer scare(Image: Getty Images)The duo performed on stage in Fleetwood, Lancashire, where she discussed the collapse of her marriage to Peter Andre. With her hair pulled back into a top knot, Katie also displayed bruising around her eye and ear – the aftermath of her latest cosmetic surgery procedure.During a conversation with her sister Sophie on her podcast The Katie Price Show, the former Page 3 model revealed: “Another thing that’s really weird, you know when I had cancer years ago.”She continued: ” For some who didn’t know, when I was pregnant with Harvey I got cancer, called leiomyosarcoma.”Katie went on: “If you look at my finger, there is like a hole there and a scar there, I had it cut out twice. Can you see that dent? It never hurt. But a lump started coming up and I thought I had been riding and done something to my finger.”The television personality continued: “But anyway cut the long story short it was leiomyosarcoma so I had to have MRI scans and all of that for six years until I was clear.”Katie has also been trying to relaunch her music career(Image: YouTube)Given that the same finger was causing her discomfort once more, this left Katie feeling worried. She explained: “The same finger here, up here, this is about three weeks ago, I thought, have I knocked it? Because it hurts when I push it but there’s no lump. And it (the pain) still hasn’t gone. So I’m going to get that X-rayed and looked at so I hope it’s not that again.”With concerns that her test results might reveal something sinister, she continued: “This better not be my bad news, and get bad results, because all this is happening, and then normally in my life something good happens and then something bad happens. Let’s hope it’s nothing bad.”Medical professionals have also been examining her blood work and following a range of examinations, results have revealed she has low blood platelets, which might account for her recent weight loss.During a frank conversation with her sister, she revealed: “I’ve had my bloods done, and I’ve got really really low platelets and I thought that was (low) iron, and it’s not. And that could be a reason why maybe I’ve got thinner. I’m tired, no energy.”Katie, who was also recognised by the public as Jordan throughout her glamour modelling career, continued: “They [the doctors] said it can affect that and I think you might have to have a blood transfusion to get them [the platelets] back up again. So I’ve got to go back and have my bloods done again.”Article continues belowWant all the biggest Showbiz and TV news straight to your inbox? Sign up for our free Daily Star Showbiz newsletter. More
