The hit show made a Hollywood star out of Jenna Ortega, who plays Wednesday, the daughter of the iconic Addams Family who enrols at Nevermore Academy before all supernatural hell breaks loose.However, some fans have been feeling left in the dark by the spooky school-based hit as they had to wait years for new episodes. For those wondering why the follow-up series took so long, Daily Star has at least some answers.Unfortunately, Wednesday was hit with some major delays due to industry-wide disruptions. The most significant was the 2023 Writer’s Guild strike (Writers Guild of America) in Hollywood, which halted progress on a number of US film and TV series – including Wednesday.Fans were gutted at having to wait three years for another series, but it was due to industry disruption(Image: Jonathan Hession/Netflix)Alongside the SAG strike (Screen Actors Guild), these strikes contributed to the largest interruption to the US film and TV industry since the Covid pandemic. The writers’ strike lasted from May until September 2023, so writing on Wednesday was delayed for at least four months.This, of course, pushed shooting back as studios don’t tend to film without a script. Despite it reportedly being a priority for Netflix, filming for the second series of Wednesday didn’t begin until May 2024.Joanna Lumley and Billie Piper have joined the cast for season two(Image: Netflix)Another huge reason that episodes took so long is that the show decided to up and move. The first season was shot in Romania, but they decided to shift its location to Ireland for the second.According to Deadline, there were “logistical challenges” in Romania that caused the production to stop. Netflix did reassure fans that the show was coming back with snaps of the cast on set – and it confirmed the show had wrapped filming by December 2024.A lot of fans had been furious at the three-year gap between seasons. One on social media asked Netflix: “Why do we have to wait so long?” and another complained: “I hate the TV industry so much now. Wait two or three years for eight episodes like, I’m over it.”Season 2 will be split into two parts(Image: Netflix)Netflix said this series will be “darker and more complex” than the first. Showrunners and exec producers Miles Millar and Alfred Gough told Tudum: “This season, Wednesday’s journey is darker and more complex as she navigates family, friends, new mysteries, and old adversaries, propelling her headlong into another year at Nevermore.””Nothing is what it seems in Season 2. Wednesday goes into this season thinking she knows Nevermore. It’s the first time she’s returned to a school willingly. But as soon as she gets back, nothing happens that she’s expecting. She thinks she’s going to be in control, that she knows where all the bodies are buried, and she doesn’t.”There are some new cast members, too. Billie Piper plays Nevermore music teacher Capri, Joanna Lumley plays Grandmama Hester Frump.Millar said: “We have a broader canvas and more toys to play with. Film studio bosses included a warning about the dangers of catching Covid in a sign that also revealed the working title of the film is What’s The Story.Fans entering Wembley were met with a sign saying by attending the gigs they are giving their agreement to be filmed for the upcoming film. One of the signs said: “Please be advised that filming is taking place in this area in connection with the production of a film provisionally entitled ‘WHAT’S THE STORY’ (Film.)”Along with further terms and conditions about image rights and filming, the notice also ominously warned: “You acknowledge the contagious and potentially dangerous nature of the Coronavirus /COVID-19 (Covid) and that the government and many public health authorities recommend practising social distancing. You acknowledge that there remains the possibility that by entering this area you may come into direct or indirect contact with Covid and you freely and willingly enter this area notwithstanding this knowledge.”Fans were warned of filming for a documentary during the gig, as well as the potential to catch COVID(Image: Grab)The note concluded: “If you do not wish to be photographed, recorded, or appear under these conditions, you should leave this area immediately. It is clear that concerts such as this one can quickly become super spreader events with over 400,000 expected to attend the gigs in Manchester alone.“New strands of Covid can infect thousands within metres of one another, so wear a mask if concerned, be safe and enjoy the return of Oasis.” It comes as Oasis have had Wembley stadium heaving since last Friday, with around 90,000 fans packing the venue for every night of their comeback shows.Latest government figures show Covid cases are rising. In the week up to July 16 there were 1,081 new reports of people contracting the disease and in the week up to July 11, a total of 55 people were killed by the virus; as of the end of June, there were 737 patients receiving treatment for Covid in hospitals.When asked if the Oasis gigs had the potential to cause similar disasters, the UK Health Security Agency said it did not want to comment on “particular events”. Chair of the UKCMA, Anne Marie Chebib told the Star: “While there are currently no credible links to COVID‑19 transmission at the Oasis concerts in Cardiff, evidence from the UK Events Research Programme highlights that most well-managed event, particularly indoor seated or outdoor seated gatherings, did not lead to increased transmission.Article continues below“However, attendance at mainly outdoor, unstructured multi‑day events was associated with a 70% higher risk of infection compared to baseline periods.
