Armie Hammer has angered social media users after the star suggested igniting a civil war as America awaits the presidential election results.
The Hollywood actor took to his Twitter profile on Tuesday evening as the polls began to close across the United States, with Joe Biden hoping to take office in the White House.
Armie, 34, has been vocal throughout the election campaign rallies – encouraging his millions of social media followers to go and vote.
Across the States, buildings have been boarded up and riot police deployed amid fears the nation will descend into chaos caused by protests and riots.
In a tweet to his 386,600 Twitter followers, Armie said: “Are we civil warring today or what?”
His post which has been inundated with responses was instantly hit with backlash from his fans.
“I need him to stop trying to be funny and relatable… Please shut up,” tweeted one follower.
A second added: “It’s not funny when rich people make the joke, stupid.”

“Armie I love you but this kinda stuff is genuinely terrifying a lot of people,” said a third.
While a fourth questioned: “Are you shutting the f**k up or what?”
The Call Me By Your Name star recently revealed that he would rather be noticed for his work ethic instead of his looks.
“What I would rather people appreciate is, ‘That guy’s put in a lot of hard work’. I mean, there’s nothing I can do about the way I look,” he told Total Film.
The dad-of-two also faced criticism after commenting on co-star Timothée Chalamet’s Instagram snap.
Gazing into the distance while rocking a baseball cap, Timothée snapped a selfie taken from below which left Armie gushing in the comment section.
Armie commented: “Ooooo KING SH*T” alongside an aubergine, water droplets, hearts and fire emojis.
While some believed he was teasing a follow up of Call Me By Your Name, he said: “People got so excited. I don’t think they realized that I was actually making fun of how ridiculous people sound on the internet now.”
Addressing speculation for a sequel, he added: “I did not comment to announce anything about Call Me By Your Name. I promise,
“I still haven’t seen the script, I don’t know if there is a script and they’re just not giving it to me or if there isn’t a script. I don’t know exactly where we are in the process.”
Armie Hammer’s representatives have been approached for comment by Daily Star Online.
