Emmerdale's Hayley Tamaddon in awkward Twitter spat over stay-at-home rules

Emmerdale actress Hayley Tamaddon, who played Del Dingle on the hit ITV show, has locked horns with Twitter users over the current social distancing restrictions.

Hayley, 43, defended herself after coming under fire from one social networker, who accused her of planning on breaking the rules.

The starlet, who lives in Manchester which is currently in Tier 3, took to Twitter to ask fans of any good walks in the local area.

Taking to Twitter on Monday, Hayley – who also played Andrea Beckett in Coronation Street – asked her followers: “Right.. I want to go for a walk in the snow today!

“Somewhere pretty..Where can I find it?! Coz I’m in Manc and I don’t have any?”

Tier 3 rules allow outdoor walks or meetings in the park with your household, support bubble or up to six friends so long as social distancing rules are observed.

Despite her suggestion of a snowy walk not breaching any government guidelines, she was quickly met with an angry response.

One irate follower hit back: “Maybe just stat (sic) at home like we are supposed to?”

However, keen not to let the comment slide, Hayley replied and put the follower straight.

The star wrote: “It’s a WALK Lucy… something we are ALLOWED to do.

“[Eye roll emoji ] have a lovely day though. Oh.. and it’s ‘stay’ not stat.”

She signed off the post with a heart emoji.

Replying Lucy replied: “Thanks for correcting me, I needed that. Have a great day, just saying you could walk from home in your local area?”

Determined not to let the Twitter user get the final word, Hayley quickly replied: “Dear Lucy, you don’t know me, so I don’t know why you felt the need to tell me to stay at home in such a rude tone.

“You could’ve been nice? Maybe I should’ve just ignored you but it got to me… it was an unnecessary comment but never mind. Hope you’re ok. With kindness, Hayley.Xx.”

Stopping the war of words deteriorating into a full out argument, Lucy replied: “Hi Hayley. I also don’t know you either.

“I’m sorry I offended you, I just wanted to say please stay local, we have had some hassle where we are regarding this here.

“I am sorry, and I am a nice person, as I’m sure you are too. Also with kindness Lucy xx please look at my profile).”

Calling a true, the Emmerdale regular responded: “I have done Lucy… you seem like a lady I would get on with very well and we would have lots to chat about..let’s forget it now.. I hope we can meet one day and have a hug! In the normal world.”

Health Secretary Matt Hancock is expected to address the House Of Commons at 3pm on Wednesday December 30 to confirm which areas will be added to Tier 4 amid spiralling restrictions.
