GMB viewers fume as they accuse Matt Hancock of sharing 'confusing' Covid advice

Health Secretary Matt Hancock returned to Good Morning Britain on Wednesday for the second time this month.

The politician, 42, appeared on the ITV breakfast show on the same day it was announced that the Oxford/AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine had been approved by regulators for use in the UK.

Giving a glimmer of hope, Mr Hancock said the vaccine will help Britain out of the pandemic by spring, as cases surge across the country.

Hailing the approval as “fantastic news,” the Health Secretary confirmed its roll-out would begin on January 4.

However, viewers at home were left scratching their heads as Mr Hancock told viewers to “stay at home unless you need to leave”.

Matt Hancock appeared on Good Morning Britain on Wednesday to share some exciting news about the Oxford/AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: “‘Stay at home unless you need to go out’ great advice Matt Hancock

Another added: “Sound advice from @MattHancock on GMB. ‘We all have to act *a bit like* we have the virus… stay at home, unless you need to leave. Proving his worth yet again.”

A third person posted: “Stay at home unless you need to leave, great advice Mr Hancock.”

While a fourth ranted: “Stay at home unless you need to leave?? Like for a bag of chips? Need to go to mates house? FFS @MattHancock it’s a definitive message!”

Sean Fletcher and Charlotte Hawkins were on presenting duty on Wednesday

Mr Hancock also instructed Brits to stay at home during New Year’s Eve as the event approaches.

He said: “You must stay at home on New Year’s Eve in a bid to stop this virus spreading further.”

The Heath Secretary’s latest appearance on Good Morning Britain comes just weeks after he was forced to hold back tears on the show on December 8.

He was overcome with emotion as he heard the words of the first man in the UK to receive the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine.

Mr Hancock said he was teary because it had been “a tough year” but that we weren’t out of the woods yet, despite the hard work gone into getting the vaccine ready.

Sean Fletcher and Charlotte Hawkins were on presenting duty on Wednesday, and are currently standing-in for usual hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid as they take time away for Christmas.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am
