Holly Willoughby 'broody' as she makes This Morning history on Christmas Day

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield will today make This Morning history by hosting the first ever Christmas Day show.

The programme will be packed with emotional surprises, toilet roll drinking games…and Santa, of course.

Holly said: “It’s today! We are very excited to be celebrating with you this morning… and this is the first time ever, the first This Morning Christmas.”

Sat amongst the festively decorated set and snowy window scene, Phillip added: “Why did we only just think of this? Loving this!” before explaining: “We have all sorts of things planned… but surely it is time for a pre-lunch tipple?”

Disaster almost strikes, however, when Alison Hammond appears riding a mulled wine cart into the studio, almost crashing into the table.

It’s a This Morning first!

Phillip, Holly, Alison and Josie Gibson relive some fond memories during the year whilst opening some presents from each other… with Phillip and Holly so touched by their gifts that they become a little teary.

Guests on the show include Davina McCall talking about The Masked Singer returning on Boxing Day and Dick and Angel Strawbridge discuss their Christmas show Escape to the Chateaux at Christmas.

Phillip and Holly also compete in a festive version of ‘Guess The Gadget’ with Steve Wilson – who also receives a gift – as do other members of the This Morning family including Alice Beer, Dr Chris Steele MBE, Deidre Sanders and Gino D’Acampo.

The hosts get emotional over gifts

Gino is also set to share negroni cocktails with Phillip and Holly before serving up a Christmas starter of smoked salmon with avocado tartare.

Viewers will also be treated to a glimpse of the newest member of the This Morning family, Rochelle and Marvin’s baby Blake. Speaking of her newborn son and his first Christmas, Rochelle said: “He’s doing so well and is well behaved.

“He gets far more engagement on social media than I do!” Before adding: “I don’t want to jinx it, but he recently slept from 10.30pm – 6.30am… I mean there’s been a lot of no sleep, but the past two nights have been really good.”

When Holly asks how his big sisters have been, Rochelle smiled: “They are brilliant. They are constantly all over him and fighting about who’s going to hold him and who’s passing me the baby wipes… but it’s really nice, and I think because he’s a boy there’s no competition, they are just trying to be mini mummies!”

Watching Rochelle holding up baby Blake to say goodbye at the end of the chat, Holly gushes, “Oh I want one of those…” Phillip said, “No, you don’t!

To which Holly replied: “I do!” Phillip responded, “No you don’t, you’ve got enough!” But Holly insisted, “OK… but I do!”

Gino busy in the kitchen

The pair then go outside for a performance of ‘Santa Claus Is Coming To Town’ by 80s legend Tony Hadley. The singer explains how since lockdown he’s been “effectively unemployed”.

He said, “I’ve done a lot of gardening and hoovering – I’m the master of the hoover – but it’s good to be here today!”

Before the end of the show, Phillip said: “Well that’s nearly it from us today, but before we go we just wanted to take a moment to thank you for allowing us to keep you company through one of the strangest and toughest years many of us have ever known.”

Holly added: “We hope that we’ve managed to raise a few smiles, have a few laughs and most importantly been there to give you a virtual hug when you’ve needed it most.”

What a year!

Phillip went on to say, “But we couldn’t have done it alone…”

Holly said, “Nope. We always talk about the This Morning family, and that family extends far beyond the camera, and every day the most dedicated team work so hard to help us bring you the show that we love doing so much.”

Phillip said, “So we thought it was time you met them! So as you get ready to tuck into your turkey, and hopefully think forward to a nice positive 2021, all that remains for us to do is wish you a very happy and healthy Christmas from our family to yours.”
