This Morning host Phillip Schofield has explained how he told his wife Stephanie Lowe that he was gay before he came out publicly.
Phillip, 57, has admitted that he knew he was gay when he first married her 27 years ago, but “was so happy” he ignored it.
He has now explained the moment that he sat down and told his wife everything, in an emotional chat at their home in Henley-on-Thames in Oxfordshire.
He told The Sun on Sunday: “Steph is my closest confidante. She’s been amazing. I have no secrets from Steph.
“We have been very truthful and honest. She has known for a while. When you live with someone you know these things don’t you?

“We sat down and we talked and then she left me to have space.
“I don’t know what it would have been like if I had a different person in my life.”
He added: “It has been a process, we started having discussions and it was gradual.

“There is no question she is a truly remarkable person – the kindest, sweetest soul I could have possibly met.”
Phillip continued: “That is what makes this so hard. Knowing you are hurting the perfect person.
“But I still love Steph as much as when we first met. More probably.”

Stephanie has also finally broken her silence about Phillip’s announcement, after an insider close to the couple told the Mirror that she was “absolutely shattered” and “humiliated”.
She told The Sun on Sunday: “We have had to face the most emotionally painful time in our 27 years of marriage.”
Stephanie also has “no plans” to take Phillip to divorce court for half of his £8m, and Daily Star can reveal they won’t split until he finds love elsewhere.
