Amy Childs joined Celebs Go Dating because she was fed up of attracting spongers

Celebs Go Dating star Amy Childs admits she turned to the show to find love because she’s fed up of attracting spongers.

The ex-Towie beauty, 29, reckons her estimated £3.1million fortune means men see her as a meal ticket.

On the show Amy has joked her dad thinks she meets all her men down the Job Centre – but it’s not actually too too far from the truth.

“I’ve definitely met guys who don’t really have jobs,” she says. “They see a really lovely life with me and they don’t want to work. They want to get with me to be with me. You could say I find it hard to trust people.”

But as a single mum of two, trust has to come first. Amy gave birth to daughter Polly in April 2017, splitting with the father Bradley Wright just six weeks later. He is currently in prison for handling stolen goods and has no contact with his daughter.

Amy later fell pregnant with a baby boy just eight months later to a mystery man only known as Ritchie. They also split shortly after her son’s birth.

But she’s now ready to find love again and has joined other famous faces including Dean Gaffney and Alison Hammond in meeting non-celebs for the popular Celebs Go Dating show.

“I’m lucky I’ve got my two kids, and having children is the best thing ever, but I’m now ready to meet Mr Right,” she says.

“That’s why I signed up to show. I’m a fun character who definitely wants to meet Mr Right and I think my time is coming now.

“I’m single and a mum, and I want to show other mums you can have two kids, but still have a dating life.”

Despite her dizzy Essex girl persona. Amy is a lot more switched on than people might realise and has sensibly invested her money in property.

She says: “I think people have a perception of Essex girls but I’ve always been business-savvy and I’ve made a lot of money being business-savvy.

“My mum and dad gave me a great upbringing and I was privately educated from four to 16 years old. I went to a private school, and I was even the head girl there.

“I’ve got four houses in total, and I’ve just built a house in my mum’s garden. So for me now it’s all about buying property – it’s all good. Now that I’ve got kids it’s all about them, and investing in their futures.

“I did so well from the show – Towie was amazing to me, and without it I wouldn’t be here now.”

Despite her Wikipedia page saying she has four GCSEs, Amy’s not sure how many she actually has.

“I think I’ve got quite a few GCSEs,” she says. “I’m not sure how many exactly.

“I left school when I was 16, and I did beauty and then all of a sudden I was asked to do Towie. It was too big an opportunity to turn down, and I ended up making a name for myself.”

After leaving Towie in 2011, Amy went on to have her own reality show before landing spots in Celebrity Big Brother and The Jump.

As she found fame, she admits to getting “addicted” to plastic surgery, having a boob job and “constant” lip filler. Amy has since ditched such cosmetic procedures.

While she admits she always thought she’d be married by the age of 30, with two young kids under her belt, Amy is in no hurry for more.

“I’d never say never, but at the minute I’ve got two under two and it’s the hardest thing ever,” she admits. “Luckily my mum and dad are amazing. I could meet my future husband and he might want children, or he could already have his own but that at this moment in time I don’t want any more, because it’s hard.”

On Celebs Go Dating, Amy’s romance with Brighton lad Matt is going well but she teases viewers will have to wait to discover if true love blossoms.

There’s also been rumours of a Towie reunion to mark 10 years, with all the original cast – including Mark Wright, James “Arg” Argent and Sam Faiers.

While Amy doesn’t know whether it will go ahead, she would be up for making a return. She says: “I think it would be a great thing if they did do it.

“It would be amazing to have all the original cast back together.”

  • Celebs Go Dating airs Sunday to Thursday at 9pm on E4.
