Black N Mild dead: DJ and radio star dies of coronavirus aged 44

DJ and radio personality Black N Mild has died aged 44 after contracting coronavirus.

The popular DJ, whose real name is Oliver Stokes Jr, passed away on Thursday after testing positive for COVID-19.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office confirmed his death.

Oliver was a father of four, and also worked at the Arthur Ashe Charter School in New Orleans.

The DJ left the school on March 9 with a fever of 102.4 degrees, according to reports.

He was admitted to the University Medical Center on March 11, writing in his final social media post: “Pneumonia not the flu.”

Black N Mild was popular after bringing bounce music to the radio in New Orleans.

He wrote in a Facebook post earlier this year: “I was the first DJ in Nola history to have a radio mix show dedicated to Nola Bounce from 03-05 (up to Katrina).”

Fans flooded Twitter, paying their respects to the DJ.

One said: “Man we lost my dawg in the music game to this corona s*** this is crazy my heart and condolences goes out to black n mild family Broken heartBroken heart crazy times we living in stay prayed up.”

While another wrote: “RIP to another New Orleans gem DJ Black n Mild .. my childhood was this mans mixes. dang.”

“WOW! DJ Black N Mild Passed Away…This is crazy…Bounce Music will never be the same…the New Orleans Music Scene will never be the same” added a third.

Oliver relocated to Houston to host Rhythm and Bounce, which aired on a New Orleans AM station on saturday evenings from 2013 until 2017.

He also worked with artists including Drake, Lil Wayne and Big Freedia.
