Bollywood star Sushant Singh Rajput dies aged 34

Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput has passed away aged 34, a Mumbai police spokesperson has confirmed.

DCP Pranay Ashok said they were investigating an alleged suicide.

Rajput was best known for playing Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni in biopic MS Dhoni: The Untold Story.

He also starred in Netflix thriller Drive, as well as films Kedarnath and Chhichhore.

Crowds of devastated fans have gathered outside the actor’s home in Mumbai to pay their respects.

According to local reports, Rajput’s tragic death came only five days after his former manager Disha Salian died.

Salian, 38, died after falling from the 14th floor of a Mumbai building on June 9.

Rajput wrote on social media at the time: “”It’s such devastating news.

“My deepest condolences to Disha’s family and friends. May your soul rest in peace.”

Tributes have come pouring in for the Bollywood star, including Indian cricketer Kiran Moore, who trained the actor in MS Dhoni: The Untold Story.

He told PTI: “Shock and disbelief are the two words I can remember?”

He also wrote on Twitter: “I don’t know how I or anyone who knows him will be able to recover from this shock, gone too soon my friend.”

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also shared a tribute to the actor, writing on social media: “Sushant Singh Rajput…a bright young actor gone too soon. He excelled on TV and in films.

“His rise in the world of entertainment inspired many and he leaves behind several memorable performances. Shocked by his passing away.

“My thoughts are with his family and fans. Om Shanti.”
