TV presenter And Peters interrupted Friday’s edition of Good Morning Britain with an emotional speech in the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement.
The GMB star became emotional as he issued a plea for black children watching the ITV breakfast show this morning.
Andi explained he is one of the only black presenters on the show and wanted to tell young viewers that they could do his job.
An emotional Andi said: “I just want to say something as I can as one of the only black people on this show, it is so important that we all keep talking.
“It really is. People meet me in the street and ask me how I feel about it.
“We’ve all started this conversation and one of the best things about Good Morning Britain is that we talk about it – we’re not brushing it under the rug, we’re not tip-toeing around, we are talking about it.
He added: “Every day on this programme we talk about it and it’s really important that we do.”
Andi then added a direct message to all black children watching the show.
“Every black kid watching right now – you could do this job,” he explained.
“Anyway, let me tell you about this prize… Sorry, I felt that I needed to say it. I shouldn’t apologise, I mustn’t apologise – I just wanted to say it.”
ITV viewers were moved by his words with fans flocking to send Andi messages of support on social media.
Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: Fair play to Andi on GMB.”
Another added: “Well said Andi.”
A third said: “You could see how important that was for Andi to say. I remember watching you on Live and Kicking when I was little. Really important representation.”
A fourth posted: “Andi, don’t apologise. Well done, and what an inspiration speech. Keep talking.”
Friday hosts Ben Shepherd and Charlotte Hawkins told Andi he didn’t need to apologise and said it was important for him to use the platform to spread his message.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am
