Liar, the ITV thriller that gripped in the nation in 2017, returns tonight.
In the first season of Liar Laura Nielson battled to prove she was raped by the surgeon Andrew Earlham.
The serial rapist, played by Ioan Gruffudd, was eventually exposed and went on the run.
In the harrowing conclusion of the season Earlham was seen dead with his throat cut on a remote marshland.
In Liar season 2 the mystery will unfold, and the question of who killed him will be explored in detail.
The series presents several suspects who had a motive to kill the sex attacker.

In the second series of Liar Laura is clearly in the frame as the prime suspect for his murder – but there are other suspects.

• Laura Nielson

Laura, played by Joanne Froggatt, is the prime suspect in the murder case.
Earlham raped her, giving her motive.
Plus, the teacher could be seen tying him up and spiking his drink to get him to confess in the first season.
He escaped, but Laura may have wanted revenge, and murdered him.
However, Laura does seem like a very obvious choice.
• DI Vanessa Harmon
DI Vanessa Harmon, played by Shelley Conn, was investigating the rape of Laura.
She came convinced of his guilt, and but in a plot twist she became his next victim.
She was also present when Laura drugged him in a bid to get a confession.
Fearing he was about to get away with his crimes, she could have located him and put an end to him for good.
• DS Rory Maxwell

Despite working on the murder case alongside DI Karen Renton, Rory, played by Danny Webb, is a suspect.
One of the theories is that he could have murdered him in revenge for the rape of his colleague Vanessa.
Rory had full access to the case, and it is believed he might have taken justice into his own hands.
He is in the new series, which suggests he will play an important role in the mystery.
• Luke Earlham

Luke, who is Earlham’s son, was devastated when he found out about his father’s horrendous crimes.
In the series we see him break down after learning the extent of his crimes.
Earlham’s son, played by Jamie Flatters, is also dealing with the death of his mother, which could have pushed him over the edge.
• Jenn Robrtson
Jennifer Robertson, played by Jill Halfpenny, was furious after finding out her partner Vanesa had been raped.
She is a former soldier, and in tonight’s episode we see she showed no remorse when she found out Earlham had been murdered.
• Katy Sutcliffe
Katy Sutcliffe, played by Zoe Tapper, is the sister of rape victim Laura.
The nurse had an affair with PC Tom Bailey, her sister’s ex boyfriend.
This led her husband Liam to leave her. One theory suggests her guilt may have caused her to commit murder.
Liar returns to ITV tonight, Monday, March 2 at 9pm.
