Kate Garraway fans praise star as she speaks out on Derek's fight for life

Kate Garraway has been praised by fans for bravely speaking out about her husband Derek Draper’s fight for his life.

The 53-year-old Good Morning Britain presenter took to her official Instagram account to share a video of herself flicking through You Magazine – which she is the cover star for this month.

Sharing it to her 939,000 followers, Kate looked beautiful on the front page as she donned a high-neck black jumper and smart grey trousers with her blonde hair sitting just above her shoulder.

With “Love, fear, hope” written across the front, in the interview Katie spoke bravely of her and her family’s battle over the last few months.

Taking to the caption, Kate wrote: “Thank you so much to the brilliant You Magazine team who made me look worthy of a cover and who sensitively handles such a personally tough interview – some of whom I found out have been personally affected by loss and Covid-19 themselves in recent months.

“So hope it helped you too to cherish love.

“Hang on to hope and manage the fear we are all living with in various ways.”

The interview saw Kate reveal Derek has lost eight stone battling coronavirus and the after effects of it.

She recalled the first time she got to see him in weeks was on a FaceTime call while he was unconscious in his hospital bed.

Kate told YOU magazine: “When I finally got to FaceTime him, seeing him unconscious was a big shock. He’s lost nearly eight stone in weight, a lot of it muscle throughout his body.

“He looked worn-out, thin and pale with dark circles under his eyes and there were lots of tubes.”

Her adoring fans rushed to the comments section to thank her for doing the emotional interview.

One wrote: “Sometimes we really find out how strong we are when strength is all we have left! You’re an inspiration to many and you are showing your beautiful children what remarkable stock they are made from! Lots of love from someone who knows.”

“Incredible and inspiring strength,” said another.

A third commented: “You’re a warrior queen and may you carry on until Derek comes back home.”

Another said: “Stay strong Kate thinking of you all.”

Derek, 53, was rushed into hospital on March 29 with coronavirus and was soon placed into a medically induced coma.

He is now Covid-free and out of the coma but is still fighting for his life and suffering from a number of health woes.

Kate also wasn’t allowed to visit her husband in person due to restrictions, and his kids still haven’t been allowed to see him.
