Loose Women's Nadia Sawalha talks marriage 'difficulties' with husband Mark

Nadia Sawalha has discussed talking about the “difficulties” of her relationship with husband Mark Adderley.

The Loose Women star, who has been married to Mark since 2002, has credited the pair’s YouTube channel with bringing them closer together over the years – and helping them to overcome any relationship hurdles.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star Online, Nadia said their channel, The Sawalha-Adderleys, forced the couple to discuss their marriage openly.

Airing their relationship woes in their “How To Stay Married (So Far)” vlogs, Nadia and Mark try to face their issues head-on, rather than ignoring them.

The ITV star mused: “It can be difficult because we do talk really openly, as we have our marriage films that we put up.

“That’s a really difficult thing to do because every week, once a week, we sit opposite each other with no editing and we talk about something that’s difficult to talk about, something in our marriage.

“People might look at that and go ‘Oh my gosh how can they do that’. But actually, there’s a real discipline to it.

“So many people, their marriages and their relationships don’t actually talk to each other about the uncomfortable stuff.”

Nadia and Mark have their own YouTube channel

Nadia added: “I really, really, really do think it has [brought us closer together]. We have had to interrogate a lot about our relationship.

“Sometimes when I get time to watch the blogs back, its really lovely to think ‘oh my god, this family is completely barking mad’.”

Things are going so well for the couple that they are soon renewing their vows.

Nadia first asked Mark to renew their vows on their Youtube channel back in February, 18 years after they first walked down the aisle together.

Today, happier than ever, the couple is plotting a romantic Cornish ceremony – and their YouTube fans are getting an invite.

Reflecting on the proposal, Nadia said: “In the first few weeks of lockdown, we said, ‘Why don’t we just do it in our garden?’ We really were considering that.”

Instead, the couple is planning an unconventional ceremony, with their YouTube subscribers making up the guest list.

Nadia explained: “YouTubers do this thing, a meet and greet thing. We feel like doing an alternative one where we get a VW van and drive around the country, just meeting our subscribers around the country.”

This one-off meet and greet will form the backdrop to the couple’s vow renewal, as they say, “I do” for a second time in the English countryside.

Nadia said: “Somewhere or other – it may very well be Cornwall because that’s my favourite place on earth – we are going to stop off and do our vows.

“Instead of doing the traditional thing of ‘Oh we’re doing a magazine shoot’, we don’t want to do any of that.

“We just might say the day before when it’s going to be. Whoever of our subscribers who want to come, they just come to the renewal.”

News of the renewal ceremony has gone down a treat with the couple’s subscribers, as she added: “We thought it would be really fun! That’s the kind of thing that we’re toying with at the moment, so we can share in that.

“We don’t want to charge people, we don’t want to do any of that. We don’t want to make money out of it, we just thought it would be a really nice thing to do.”

The family recently celebrating reaching 100,000 followers on YouTube

Launched in 2014, the family’s YouTube channel sees Nadia, Mark and their daughters Maddy, 17, and Kiki, 12, share their day-to-day with their subscribers.

Covering everything from film reviews – in their “Popcorn Junkies” clips – to gardening, with “Green Fingered Hell,” the family bring humour and honesty to every aspect of the channel.

Highlighting the success of the hugely relatable and honest video content, the family recently celebrated a YouTube milestone, racking up an impressive 100,000 followers.

Thrilled with the marker of success, Nadia said: “I think it’s one of the highlights of my career if not the highlight. Because we’ve done it completely on our own. It is difficult to come from the telly and go on to YouTube because it’s such a different medium.”

Hinting at more exciting content to come, she continued: “We really do see ourselves as another channel. Eventually, we’ll put dramas and documentaries on the channel as well. We do work seven days a week that’s no exaggeration. Around the clock.”
