Netflix's explosive new 'Cursed' series set to rival Game of Thrones

Netflix ‘s newest series, Cursed, is set to fill the Game of Thrones shaped hole in TV buffs’ lives in the coming weeks.

Airing on the streaming service next month, the brand-new trailer for the series teases some of the action, with battles and bloodshed in a misty fantasy world.

The show is based on the bestselling book by Tom Wheeler and Frank Miller, with Wheeler directing the series himself.

Cursed has been compared to The Witcher and Game of Thrones in the past – two shows that have gained a cult following in recent years.

Teasing the series, the Netflix synopsis reads: “After her mother’s death, [Nimue] finds an unexpected partner in Arthur, a humble mercenary, in a quest to find Merlin and deliver an ancient sword.

“Over the course of her journey, Nimue will become a symbol of courage and rebellion against the terrifying Red Paladins, and their complicit King Uther.

“Cursed is a coming-of-age story whose themes are familiar to our own time: the obliteration of the natural world, religious terror, senseless war, and finding the courage to lead in the face of the impossible.”

Director Wheeler praised Langford’s acting chops in a recent interview, branding her character Nimue as a “hero and sword-swinging badass”.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, he said: “Realising these characters from page to screen was a unique and thrilling creative challenge.

“I think first and foremost when casting for Cursed, Frank and I were looking for a mythological truth, actors who could bring the emotion and the humanity to legendary characters without losing the sense of elemental magic and epic stakes.

“Led by Katherine Langford, who is equal parts classic hero and sword-swinging badass, this extraordinary cast has brought such depth, commitment, and heart to this story.”

He added: “We can’t wait to introduce them to audiences around the world.”
