Olly Murs emotional as scammers steal his name to cheat charities out of money

Olly Murs has issued a passionate plea to his followers after realising scam artists had been using his name to swindle money from his fans.

The 36-year-old shared an emotional video on social media, urging viewers against donating money to the fraudsters, who claimed to be sending the dosh to charity.

The Voice coach Olly admitted he was “angry” and “upset” after making the discovery, begging fans to watch out for online swindlers and to be vigilant on the web.

He said: “I am angry, I’m really really upset. Some charities have been scammed recently by people using fake accounts. I’m fuming.

“Please if you see anyone message you using my name, with a 5378 or OllyMurs2522, whatever it is,…it’s not me, ok, my accounts on all social media are verified, that is the only account that I have, that I’m me. So please ignore any other messages from anyone. I’m really upset for the charities.

“I know right now with everything that’s happening, that money is needed.

“So I’m going to donate to them guys for what’s happened, I’m just really really gutted for all you guys that thought it was me, please it’s not.

“Ok ignore the fake accounts, stay safe online.”

In his caption, Olly asked his 3.3million followers to “stay safe,” sharing a final word of warning in the wake of the worrying identity theft.

He said: “So angry… Please remember my social media accounts are Verified for a reason to stop these issues / problems. Please BLOCK / IGNORE or report any FAKE accounts pretending to be me in the future.”

The former X Factor star has been particularly active on social media in recent months, keeping fans entertained with “prank” videos from his Essex home.

In April, he shocked his fans by sharing a clip of himself and his girlfriend Amelia Tank by the poolside, pushing her into the water while she exercised.

Getting her own back in another clip, Amelia instructed the singer to sit down and pull on an “invisible string” – before she slapped him across the face.

Unfortunately, one of Olly’s clips backfired completely, as he was forced to issue an apology after fans slammed the trick as “disgusting”.

The singer cut out the bottom of a Pringles tube and placed his penis inside, offering his girlfriend a crisp while filming the prank.

Olly’s girlfriend Amelia recoiled in horror in the clip, realising there were zero crisps inside the tube.
