This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield gave two guests on the show a serious grilling today, when a hairdresser and her client appeared on the show.
The hairdresser, whose name had been changed to “Jane” to protect her identity, has been secretly cutting customers’ hair throughout the lockdown.
Debt and concerns for her family’s wellbeing drove her to take on 15 clients, travelling to their homes with sterilised equipment.
She reasoned: “All my equipment is sterile. Really it is no different to going into a hospital or doctors.”
Jane’s client, whose name had been changed to Kate, also appeared on the show, explaining that the hairdressing sessions improved her mental health throughout the loneliness of the lockdown.

She reasoned: “I think its a freedom of choice thing
“There’s also been a lot of conflicting advice from the government.”
Phillip asked: “There will be people up and down the country who will be saying I am lonely, yet I am still abiding by the rules.

“What gives you the right to potentially say… it’s a bit like safe sex.”
Jane added: “I’m only trying to keep a roof above my head.”
Looking at the situation from her point of view, Phil conceded: “It’s a hell of a dilemma which we understand.”

However, watching from home, This Morning fans were left outraged, with some blasting ITV for giving “rule-breakers” a platform on the show.
One fumed: “It’s actually shameful to see that there are people this selfish in the UK.”
A second added: “I’m a hairdresser and we would LOVE!!!! to be at work right now but it’s not safe.
“You cannot work 2m apart. It’s incredibly selfish and so hard to watch for the salons that have done the right thing and closed.”
“Words fail me at these two on #ThisMorning , making me very angry,” chimed a third.
This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10am
